After Labor Day there's no salmon left at Astoria- NOT!
It's been an awesome first week of September on the Columbia River @ Astoria. In fact it's been the best fishing of the whole season.
Double digit days, every day.
I started off this week on Sunday, man was it rough! A guy almost had to wear a snorkal and mask just to drive the boat
At least the crowds were low, there was a longer line at Krispy Kream than the boat ramp.
I wish we could have fallowed the fish a little better but we didn't go far on the account of some large white caps, mostly hung around Hammond and caught these nice fish.

Labor Day Monday I had the pleasure of fishing with a few of the McBride family.

First time salmon fishing.
What made this trip so special to me was they have just moved to Oregon from Malaysia and it turns out we have mutual friends from over there. What a small world.
It was also their first time salmon fishing and everyone caught lots of fish, 14 of them.
The day after Labor day was just another outstanding day. Doris turned 71 the day before and the trip was her birthday present.
Of course she hooked the most fish.
Check out some of those big coho!

I always have a good time fishing with these great people.
Wednesday we caught 19 by noon, including some nice chinook.

Chinook and some real nice silvers.
Thursday was another trip with one of my favorite clients, Bill. Bill brought his wife Linda and freind Don. My fourth seat was filled in by Ron.
At 9 a.m. we had two fish in the box and released two. Then we got into a head spinning bite were we just couldn't keep our lines in the water. One triple and three doubles and lots of singles in between and we were done with a box full of fish by 11. I almost had too much to handle, water and blood flying everywere, fish stacking up on the floor under my feet and net a swingin'.
It must have looke wild!

And today was another great morning with over 20 fish to the boat.
The fog was so thick you could cut it with a knife but that didn't stop the fish. We just kept working over them and had a steady bite of about a fish every ten minutes. It's cool the think back and relize I used three dozen herring and not one of them went into the water without getting bit.

We have still been getting into a lot of chinook mixed in with our silvers. And look at some of those silvers, they're as big as chinook! Several have been in the mid to upper teens.
I don't know how much longer this is going to last but I'll be going after 'em for several more days.
If you know someone that really wants to catch some salmon this is the place. It's perfect for the bigginer or out of towner. I get booked up almost six months in advance for this season so next year get a hold of me early.
