I had planned on starting out my Astoria season today but with in-river reports of slower than expected fishing and sloppy ocean conditions I wasn't looking foreword to it.
Then I got a phone call from a friend who had a good day fishing the Columbia closer to home.
Sometimes you gotta change plans to try and get into fish. I headed east instead of west.
Fishing was slower than I had hoped but at about 10:30 Jen's rod took a dive.

This fish took a pink tip rainbow spinner
We only had one other chance, a violent strike that was missed. This could have been avoided if there was some thumb presure applied during the hook set.
That water is so warm if you brought a bar of soap you'd be ready to jump in.
To combat the warm water either look for current or the influence of a cold water tributary and you'll find both steelhead and salmon.
