Not much good to report. The water level was about 30 to 35 feet below normal. Launching at Holcomb launch was impossible and launching at Hewitt was difficult due to no dock. The water looked like chocolate milk. We did catch a few crappie near Mtn Man lodge. There were alot of boats on the water and many people on the banks. Didnt see many fish landed. I can't see it getting good for another couple of weeks. For those of you familiar with Holcomb boat launch, the day parking fees have doubled from last year. It is now $4 per day to launch and park?? My dad always said "Someday boys only the rich will be able to hunt and fish".

Is the water really that low? This Brownlee Water Level (http://www.idahopower.com/riversrec/waterlevels/reservoir.asp) says it is only 25' down ajnd you can use Hewitt to 35' lowered.

I also thought I read in a Friends of Brownlee newsletter that Idaho Power was no longer allowed to play with the levels? What gives?

Arc Burn,
I have fished BROWNLEE often but, do not know where MTN Man Lodge is ?How far downriver from the boat ramp and what side of the Powder River arm is it on ?Is it on the right side of the Powder River arm or the left side when you are headed downriver toward the SNAKE ? Is it on the Powder River arm or on the main BROWNLEE ? Thank you for your report . I can not be there as often as I would like . It helps to read about what is going on . Thank for the report and I am sorry that I asked so many questions .

Shalom,
i saw your questions on mtn. man area. it is approximately 20 miles up from hewitt, which should make it around 13 from the powder river arm. if you don't want to run that far, you can drive to swede's landing from richland on a rough road. swede's has a unimproved camp site, but good fishing around it

Thank you for the info .Is MT Man Lodge on the right side of the reservoir if you are going up to Farewell Bend ? How do I recognize it, and can I see it from the water? I do not mind going that far in my boat. I went for a ride one time and went as far as some overhead power lines before I turned around. I think that I went far enough that I should have seen the lodge. I don’t remember seeing any thing like a lodge, but didn’t know what to look for. Thank you for the help .

Mt. Man Lodge sits on a point in Idaho at the mouth of Dennett Creek. Up a half mile on the Oregon side is an area called "The Griz" that at the present water level is probably exposed. Good fishing found there as well as in the smaller bays further up rez.

I like to use ROADRUNNERS IN a I/8 OZ SIZE. You will find a lot of crappies while using it for BASS. I love to use a REBEL crawfish in a brown and orange color . It is a killer over there . It is different than most crankbaits, the pincers are closer together and when you are retrieving it there are small bubbles that come up that are made by the shape of the pincers . The BASS can’t resists and they will hammer it . I have about 20 different sizes and colors. They all seem to work. :angel1:   :jester:

I think it's quicker to get to the Mountain Man Lodge area by driving to Huntington, and putting in at Spring Boat ramp. It's only about 9 miles down to Mtn. Man Lodge. Good fishing all along the way though...

When you went for the ride and saw the power lines you were very near mtn man lodge. The power lines(large colored balls on the lines) you saw that crossed the lake are actually supplying power to mtn man lodge. Mtn man lodge is on the Idaho side and tucked back inside of a cove. It is quicker to drive to spring ramp and launch, but I love the boat ride from Hewitt upriver to Mtn man lodge and beyond , about a 22mile ride . I have a 70hp 4 stroke and don't hear the sucking fuel sound that some of the jet boats hear though. I noticed last weekend there was alot of debris in the water. A person would want to be very careful right now. I actually saw a large tree floating down the lake. A guy could get his feelings hurt if he hit something like that !! My brother owns a home in Halfway and is heading over this weekend. I'll be able to give everyone a water condition report Monday.

Thank you for your excellent and detailed report .I almost messed up that day that I went for a ride . I had been fishing for 5- days when I deiced to go look at some new country . When I found the overhead power lines with the orange balls on them, I looked at my gas gauge and noticed that it was low, very low . I returned to the boat ramp to go to town for gas . Did I mention my gas gauge was the lowest that I have ever seen it . My boat will hold 45-gallons of gas and it took 42-gallons to fill it . I have been trying not to think about the price of gas, last year was bad, this year ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!
