I decided to go fishing today. We started at the Hatchery Hole on Three Rivers. We fished for 3 hours and saw only three winters caught. They were chrome though.

We went down to the Nestucca, and was surprised to see the water at a level to bobber fish for salmon. It was a little fast for bobbering, but definately fishable. A boat below where we were fishing caught a chrome chinook on a bobber. We decided to switch gears, and threw our bobbers out there. We each had a take down, but missed them. It was very windy, so it was impossible to not have a belly in your line, so you win some you loose some. We fished bobber for 2 hours.

We decided to switch back to steelhead fishing. We didn't touch any, but we did see 6 or 7 winters caught below the mouth of Three Rivers. One guys fish went about 12 pounds.

We decided to head back to the Hatchery Hole on the way home. We fished another hour, but did not see any more fish hooked. The water on Three Rivers was a bit low for my liking, but the water on the Nestucca I would say was a bit fast for bobbering for salmon, but prime for steelheading.

I did try bobbering for steelhead for about an hour, but no luck. Also saw another guy bobbering for steelhead, but he also had no luck. I observed closely what the people were catching the steelhead on today. At the Hatchery Hole, one was on a pink pearl corkie with pink yarn, and two were on an orange corkie with red yarn. At the Nestucca it was a small orange spin-n-glow with no yarn on almost all the fish. There were a couple guys that caught fish upstream that I didn't get a good look at their offering.

Fished the Nestucca above Beaver and the upper Three Rivers today, along with a slot on the Miami and also over on the Kilchis. Had a bump on the Nestucca and so did my friend for steelies, but we came up with nothing. Saw no fish landed anywhere. Tons and tons of cars at the Three Rivers/Nestucca hole, and at the Three Rivers Hatchery hole. SKP...how do you fish like that?
Does anyone know if any natives have been passed over Cedar Creek hatchery? The water above the hatchery is so beautiful, I'd much rather fish that alone than alongside 40 other people...

At the Hatchery Hole, we fished below the bridge in the morning, and only one guy was across the river. We didn't venture into the combat zone, but there were only about 6 guys up there, so it really wasn't too bad today.

At the mouth of Three Rivers, we were all alone bobber fishing, except for the boat below us. We did venture up to the mouth of Three Rivers, after we couldn't stand to see any more flying fish. There were only about 6 guys in a hundred yard stretch in the afternoon up there.

When we went back to the Hatchery Hole, we fished the deadline with only two other guys. The crowd had moved down to the bridge area.

I've seen way worse. It wasn't too bad at all today. The prediction was for the Nestucca to go over 10 foot today, but it didn't even start sprinkling until about 3 PM. The wind was gusty though and blew my hat off once.

I had a guy with me who only has caught one steelhead and no salmon in his life, so I wanted him to observe and learn.

Oh, by the way, they opened and closed the weir three times today at the hatchery. I think any fish can get above the hatchery when it's open.

Fished 3 rivers Thur. morning. Lost two beautiful fish (one right at my feet, decided to leave the net at home  ) downstream from hatchery. Did not have any other people fishing around me (except for the girlfriend and her father). Hooked them drift fishing flies. (yes, flies, tie them on a 3' leader w/ a slinky and drift like a corky/yarn) Saw one other fish caught. Some fish in there.
