I decided to go fishing today. We started at the Hatchery Hole on Three Rivers. We fished for 3 hours and saw only three winters caught. They were chrome though.
We went down to the Nestucca, and was surprised to see the water at a level to bobber fish for salmon. It was a little fast for bobbering, but definately fishable. A boat below where we were fishing caught a chrome chinook on a bobber. We decided to switch gears, and threw our bobbers out there. We each had a take down, but missed them. It was very windy, so it was impossible to not have a belly in your line, so you win some you loose some. We fished bobber for 2 hours.
We decided to switch back to steelhead fishing. We didn't touch any, but we did see 6 or 7 winters caught below the mouth of Three Rivers. One guys fish went about 12 pounds.
We decided to head back to the Hatchery Hole on the way home. We fished another hour, but did not see any more fish hooked. The water on Three Rivers was a bit low for my liking, but the water on the Nestucca I would say was a bit fast for bobbering for salmon, but prime for steelheading.
I did try bobbering for steelhead for about an hour, but no luck. Also saw another guy bobbering for steelhead, but he also had no luck. I observed closely what the people were catching the steelhead on today. At the Hatchery Hole, one was on a pink pearl corkie with pink yarn, and two were on an orange corkie with red yarn. At the Nestucca it was a small orange spin-n-glow with no yarn on almost all the fish. There were a couple guys that caught fish upstream that I didn't get a good look at their offering.
