Just wondering which Loomis rod is best for trolling herring with heavey lead (10-16oz)
and also for a buoy 10 diver rod. The 983 looks good but may be too short??

Thanks

Personaly, if you are just using it to pull bait and do not need the sensativity that you would for drift fishing why spend all that money when you can get a much cheaper rod that will hold up just as well. My .02

I would look at maybe a SAR1265 rated 10-40. I use this rod for just what you are talking about and it works great.

I know that GLoomis has a $50 no questions asked replacement system for most of their rods. My dad broke one a while back, walked into the shop he bought it from, handed the guy 50 bucks, and he a brand new $350 rod. I'd say if you have the extra money, go for a better rod.
By the way...they make freakin' good rods. ;-)

My choice is the BBR966C. If you can work with a one piece eight ft. rod, this one will carry a load.

Sparkleboy, go to Fisherman's Marine, plunk down a whole $70 for a Northriver, go fishing. If you break it, walk in and pick out another one.

Buy beer with the $50.

I'm too far way from Fisherman's....
I guess it all depends on your preference really. And quality, but mostly preference.

The BBR 964C is the real deal, 12-25lb line weight and strong as an ox. I have had mine since 2001 Buoy 10 season and love it. Also caught two nice 54" Sturgeon with it as well. Needless to say I am in hot pursuit for another one as we speak.

I would recommend the SAR 1083 for you front rods (nearest to you) and SAR 1265 for back rods (furthest from you). I have hung 16 OZ on both of these rods with no problem while fishing fall nooks and stacked rigs for springers.
