It has been a long work week! 4 dives a dive everyday. Doing work from photographing tagged artifacts to tagging new ones. and from taking oil samples to looking for unexploded ordinance. 1st the tagging using these specially made US Govt property tags http://www.ifish.net/uploads/282500323.gif then there is the photographing of the exsisting articles. Just thinking of thing things being here for over 60 years. Like the unexploded 50 cals rounds
http://www.ifish.net/uploads/182700323.gif

and the bottle of aftershave used by a US sailor blasted from his bunk
http://www.ifish.net/uploads/282900323.gif and the kitchen items in the gally of the ship like this cooking pot
http://www.ifish.net/uploads/443000323.gif
or this part of the stove used to heat that pot http://www.ifish.net/uploads/413100323.gif
just so much stuff. shoe soles, 1940 era beer bottles, it goes on and on..The sacrifices made! Unbeliveable!
More posts when I return still have to clean up gear, waiting my 24 hour surface time before flying after diving. More to come on oil recovery later.

With respect,

Now to oil recovery. This is a messy job http://www.ifish.net/uploads/034601323.jpg
It comes from four differnt places. Back in 1998 when I first dove there only one place. 3 separate hatches http://www.ifish.net/uploads/044811323.jpg
(notice the stairs going into the hull)
or right out of the deck itself here by the galley
http://www.ifish.net/uploads/014101323.jpg
We catch it in a tent made my USIA especially for this http://www.ifish.net/uploads/104401323.jpg

But when you see it seeping out , sometimes it comes out in thich big wads

Here's a small sample captured and on its way to the South Carolina Medical University for analysis

In 18 hours this jar is full to the brim

Thanks, Kim, for taking the time to include us in this. I'm sure you have many, many more pictures. Maybe we could get you to a TA meeting and you could tell us the whole story.

Congratulations on being chosen to do this work. That says a lot for you and your organization.

When I was there in 1999. They told me the oil will leak for another 50 years.

You are one lucky man, from captain of the Black Rocket to dive man for the US Goverment, quite the life you lead.

I've just been in awe viewing these posts, Kujo. It's not fishing, no... but it is an honor so unbelievable, and a story so great, that I can't imagine having it anywhere else but the main board!

I feel honored that you are sharing this with us! WOW!

Thank you... most sincerely!
