I plan on fishing the lower John Day River the next two weekends. Like last winter, I will be mooring at night at Phillipi Park and sleeping on the boat. I am still pretty new at this; between my son and I we've caught a total of three steelhead (ever). One was trolling Wiggle Warts at the mouth of the Deschutes last year (it was a 35" B-run), one was trolling warts on the John Day, and one was bobber/jig (with sandshrimp) on the John Day. I love that place! If you see me there during the next two weekends, say hello! I will be in my old 1964 Glasspar Seafair Sedan (red and white cuddy cabin boat - with Ifish stickers). I usually have the VHF on Channel 68. So far I've concentrated all of my fishing there near Phillipi Park. I've been a little further upstream but it gets shallow pretty fast after the park and I am leery of running aground. If someone is going upstream and wouldn't mind me following you, I would like to learn the ropes of fishing that shallow water upstream of the park. See you on the river!

Looks like I might end up there on the 29th and 30th.It.s a good half way point for my brother and I to meet and spend some time.I have a 17'Alumaweld stryker with a prop and have gone all the way up, you just need to stay to the outside of all the bends and watch the bottom. In the past we have always gone for bass, cats and fun but this time hopping to hook up with one of the fraight trains I here about.
keeping an eye on the weather.
Hope to see ya Wallyed

I may be up there as well, still don't know for sure. If I am I will be in the 21' red custom weld jet boat. Waiting to see what the weather does.

KHH,
Shoot me an e-mail if you wind up going and need a partner. Looks like Saturday is shaping up to be a decent day out there. Gonna be chilly @ 38, but little or no wind.

It dropped down to 29 degrees this morning and is going to get colder. They forcast into the teens by Saturday here at The Dalles. Everything looks a little murkey after yesterdays down pour, but not bad enough to stop me. Look for a 16 foot Bell-boy and two frozen dudes on board!!! I'll have my trusty Ifish hat on. graemlins/dork.gif

I just got back from the Johnday. Very windy, very cold, and saw one fish caught on Tuesday. Wind was really bad yesterday. Fish was caught on a FireTiger.
Wind was not real bad early this morning but was starting to blow harder when we left. Snow level was just above us. Saw a lot of deer up at the park and on the sidehills.
Did see another ifisher up there. Goes by the name Hi Ball. Was nice to see a fellow ifisher.
Hope you all catch some fish. I marked a ton of them up at the park and above the power line.

I've heard that the wind is suppose to die down for the weekend. I am going to try and make it up there but might not make it till the first of the week.
