I was wondering how often to change my Tuff line. Is it good for 2 seasons or three? My cousin is on his second year. I had mine filled up this year. Will the line get old and break after a year or two, or will I be alright with 2 or 3 seasons. Any advice welcome.

as long as you took reasonably good care of it, it should be fine. I just check mine for abrasions and take about 20' off it each year if needed. I'm fine after a 3 years, it's tough stuff, and expensive. No need to change it if it's not needed.

When there aint enough left on the reel to fish with!

It lasts a long time. As in years. Our original 2 5500s that we filled with Tuf are on their 5th season. 3 of those years have seen quite a bit of fishing time. I cannot see any reason to replace it until it fails. By the looks of things, they may go another 2-3 years before needing a reload.

It lasts for quite a while if taken care of. What I like to do is every season (sometimes every other season) I pull it off my reel and re-spool it with the old stuff on the bottom and the fresh stuff not on top. It works really well if you have two reels, then you can just tie one end onto the spool of the other and then reel, it'll be like haveing fresh line now on your reel.

Unlike monofilament, spectra fibers (as in Tuffline) are extremely resistant to degradation. Mountaineering gear made with the stuff lasts for years even after exposure to extreme temps and super intense, high altitude, solar radiation.

Down here at sea level, I suspect it will be fishable for decades IF it doesn't get too abraded. This also means that these 'super lines' are going to be causing last-forever, super snags in our rivers.

My one salmon reel with the original black/white Tuffline is now on about its seventh season.

Think I have 5-6 years on a couple of reels. That stuff is incredable..........

Dido....5 years here too.....

I think way to offen...the "Marketing" gets us fishing types to buy this color, change this do that way beyond what is needed...so all you rich folks keep spending it makes people have jobs & keeps that big wheel turning...as for me...I'm simple as are the fish...after all how big of a brain does this fish really have after all....
