My buddy and I were out fishing today. We were standing about 20ft apart, he makes his cast using a corkie and a slinkie and then I make mine using a bobber and a jig with a split shot on my leader. I didn't notice that he was hung up and my bobber did a little dance and I set the hook and missed. I asked if that was him? He said, "Could be". I reeled my outfit in to check things out and notice that my split shot is missing. He has to break off from the snag, reels in and MY SPLIT SHOT IS ON HIS LINE! What are the chances of that happening?

that's interesting. But wierd stuff like that does happen. I've seen hooks run through the eye of broken of swivels before with fish still attatched to the leader. Crazy stuff I tell you.

Wow, that is crazy. My personal wierdest has been while pulling plugs in the Wilamette and running the treble on my friends wiggle wart through the swivel of a huge steelie that had broken someone else off.

I have also had my hook run through the eye of a swivel that was still attached to a leader and a fish.

Sounds cool,
A buddy told me a story of loosing a plug on a big fish. A few days latter his buddy brings him his lure that was still hung up in that fish's mouth when he caught it two days latter. I was true. Amazing.
Good fishing story anyways.

I've got the Grand Daddy of all weird fish stories but can only tell it in the presence of the only witness because nobody believes it.

we were sturgon fishing out of the fishery and my friend cast out and he didnt have rod holders in the boat and a oversized grabbed the bait and ran taking the pole with it. we fished for about 2 hours and then moved about a 1/4 mile down stream and anchored again and snagged the pole and reeled it up the fish was gone but we got the pole back.
OK...Here's a "Wierd but true" story.
Several years ago six or seven boats are in a regular hog-line near the mouth of the Sandy, a line that I fish in but wasn't there that day.
The people in the line notice a salmon jumping downstream and out a ways from the inside boat, so every one is checking their rods and no one has the fish on. Eventually the outside boat sees a fishing line coming across their anchor rope, it's got the fish on the other end of it! So, they get ahold of the line and pull in the spent fresh fifteen or so lb. salmon, SCORE! Now, the other end of the line is still going across the rope of the inside boat and toward the outside boat, who now has a line coming up HIS anchor rope. The outside boat pulls the fishing line in to find a full salmon rod and reel setup, SCORE!
Now to make this "True Story" really wierd!
The boat that lost the fish, rod and reel was my wifes store manager at Kienows where she worked at the time, he had been fishing a hundred yards or so above them that day. We heard the story from the people in the line a day or so later, and a few days after that her boss told her the story of the lost fish and gear. We were able to get the rod and reel back from the guy in the line, we knew him quite well, and return it to the wifes boss.
Needless to say it took the boss awhile to live THAT one down.

Was fishing for mackinaw in Cultus Lake with downriggers. Had a fish hit- grabbed my pole and jerked on my line to get the release to let go. Jerked again-still stuck, jerked a third time(knew better) and my line broke. Duh- it was probably tangled on the release:( Reeled in my line and lifted the downrigger lead- no line on the release- dag nabbit- I was jerking on the fish! I'm feeling moronic for 5 minutes- then we see a fish flopping on the surface behind the boat. We look again and see something orange-it's my plug! The fish I broke off came up to return my lure- nicest fish I ever met!
