With all the banter about fish being caught or fish being not caught over the last couple of days I thought I would post this link to a story about a 500 to 800 lb catfish landed on a trot line in 1914.

I found it to be entertaining. Hope you do to.

the way the guy appears to levitate next to the fish makes we wonder.

A trot line is a length of hooks tired at desired intervals of spacing and then one end is tied to a weight and the other to a floating jug or float etc. all hooks are baited and you check it each morning. Not legal in WA or Or but some midwest states have adopted this method.

There used for catfishing only. Normal they string a line with hooks hanging about a 1 1/2 from the main line across a med size river then anchor the middle of the line with a rock so that boat can cross the river with out catching the line. Then there baited with live perch, shad, or crawfish. It's a very effective way for catching channel cats for meat. Limit in Missouri is 25 hooks per person on a trott line or 6 hooks on two rods.

I have pictures of 50-100 pound catfish. Ill try to post them tonight when I have some free time.

Some things never change

That fish doesn't look to be over 350 lbs.

The fish is laying the wrong way, and I see another grassy knoll in this picture too
I know there are catfish this big in the amazon, but I doubt anything that large from the southern US. Really cool photo, ya just never know.

If it is true then there should've been about 10 other guys that knew about it because that is how many people it would take to get that thing onto the cart.

How about this one, back in the day when you could keep sturgeon this big. No, this is not me in the picture, it weighed in at 468lbs.

I don't believe that a fish could grow to that size. And the guy in the photo seems to levitate, like it's not real.

The catfish looks kind of suspicious  500lb......? Back at home I have heard of catfish as big as 125kg (274.3lbs) which is probably pushing it a little too  . The biggest one I’ve seen in my life was 84.3kg (185.7lbs) about 7-8 years ago... they showed it on the news and it was over 6 ft long. The guys that caught it used a whole chicken that has been sitting in the sun for a day (after it was killed...)
now the sturgeon is believable.... back at home there is no size limit for gators(which is the reason we don't have as much sturgeon as there is here), so every year a few big ones are caught.... the biggest one I’ve heard of(seen a picture in a fishing magazine) was 4 meters long.(13 feet)

P.S. if you’re wondering, home is Bulgaria. The sturgeon came out of the Black Sea by the mouth of the Kamchia River.....it’s about 100-120 miles south of the mouth of the Danube. The catfish was caught in the Danube.

I'm sure it's real...I take 800 pounders routinely on dry flies.

And saw a bunch of those crazy dudes on an In Fisherman catfish segment once. Yea, OK. Gonna run out to the snag zone, stick my arm underwater and try to grab me a really big cat and hope he doesn't pull me back down into his lair.

Here Kitty kitty kitty! graemlins/1zhelp.gif
