OK,

Here it is... any 2 individuals who would like to to take a chance & fish this Saturday & Sunday at the mouth of the John Day for Metal Heads with the Ky. Hog Hunter send me a PM.

This is only open to sober bodies who can handle a little redneck humor from a po-dunk Kentuckian.

I've been comtemplating running up to the lake arm of the John Day before the end of the month. You have any word of how the fishing has been in the lake arm? Thx.

Hog Hunter, see ya there Saturday. Me and with boys and of course Pop's will be there enduring the cold and rain. Hopefully no wind. Please not even a wiff of wind.

18' alumiweld guide model with i-fish sticker. One old guy, one really young guy of nearly 41  one 11 year old and one 4 year old who has yet to boat a BIG fish according to him. He does not want to fish for trout. TO SMALL DAD he says, I want to catch a salmon or steelhead. Maybe he will have better luck with steelhead than I do. Someone in this family has to.

See ya there.

Bernie

C&E,

We have something in common... 1962 & that 41 thing

I also have an Ifish sticker on the 23' Duckworth with my namesake on the side.

Can't miss the big ugly teal top and white paint.

Stop & say hello...I will be staying at LePage in a Lance camper...

The forecast is for no-rain, upper 50's and wind 10 - 15 so not so bad.

KHH, hope you're right about the weather deal cause that would be sweet. I love that river but don't ever fish it much. Looking forward to hitting on Saturday. If I see ya I'll swing by and say howdy.

BTW 62 was a vintage year was'nt it. December was a great month to be born except you always get ripped off on the birthday, christmas present deal. Oh well......I'm not bitter, I'm not bitter, I'm not bitter......there, I feel better.

Ya,

October is my month and just celebrated one... They can definately start coming slower.

Like I said in an earlier post... I fished the JD for Metal Heads a couple of years ago and it has been way too long. I know it is a productive fishery when your timing is right and the weather cooperates.

BTW...Bounty Hunter has dared to take the chance on Sunday.

Not many people willing to take the risk I suppose up to this point...Maybe I better take a bath or something

For those who may still be interested...I am heading up there tomorrow evening and won't have access to email so if your thinking about it...notice is served...

I'd keep an eye out on the weather. They are calling for heavy rain/wind coming in for Fri/Sat/Sun. You may not get the rain there the the wind.....You can almost count on it. I wish you luck!

Mojo,

Thanks for the heads up.

I looked at the digital forecast on the NOAA site and the winds are predicted around 15 MPH for Saturday & Sunday.

If you have never been to that site I would recommend it because it does give summaries for little towns all along the Columbia.

Oh well, if it blows we will stay tucked in as much as possible but being inside the JD itself it should not be as bad.

"Oh well, if it blows we will stay tucked in as much as possible but being inside the JD itself it should not be as bad."

Not wanting to create a panic for anyone.....but, I have been in waves taller than my 22' inboard with full canvas...that were coming over the bow, the windsheild, and top and then into the boat with both bildge pumps running in that tucked in place you refere to. Water so rough and breaking.... it was like the Columbia bar and I was very careful to pick my spot to turn it around and get up to the upper park until it layed back down.

If you fish there much...You know I am not kidding.....If you don't fish there much....Keep this in mind and if it gets bad....go to the bank or back up the canyon for a bit until it calms down.

Anyone else want to confirm what I am saying?

I have seen the waves first hand.

A few years back during a Bass Tournament, yes Bass :hoboy:
Most of the boats stayed inside, but one vertured out into the Columbia and ended up upside down banging into the rocks a few minutes later.

Yes, it can get very bad, very quick.

Andy...I am with you on the outside waves....

My point is that the waves can be just as bad up in the arm when the wind is blowing in the right direction.

If you have not been there & done that....You will be shocked when you do....

AT least one trip a year.....I get "trashed" in the Arm. It is the ride of your life!
