I need a new fishing rod. I need a rod that is stiff in the butt, with a springy tip, light weight, heavy duty with super fast action. Probably for a range of line weights of 6-50lb. I’ll use it mostly for pulling plugs and tidewater bobber fishing, but I will also use it to fish bobber and jig for summer steelhead, downrigger in the ocean, and plunking with 32 oz lead at Bonneville and Sauvie Island. I also like to hike into mountain lakes and fish for trout, so I guess it needs to be a four piece. I’d like to get a rod with a lifetime warranty, and my budget is $43. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Are you going to fly fish with this rod too, or just fish conventional tackle? If you are going to use it for flyfishing there is nothing that will fit your budget because as soon as you say something can be used for flyfishing the price goes up 40%.

Scary thing, I've had people actually ask me for just a rod. I told them to go get an eagle claw grainger rod. Close as you're gonna get. LOL

UglyStick heavy action. $49 When I don't want to abuse the high-enders this is what I grab. Best all around from Oregon to Alaska. Excellent return policy. As far as the pack rod goes I use a shimano Compre, 7', 8-17lb test, fast taper in a 3 peice. It'll set ya back $69. Might be able to use the latter for what you want. But would be a little leary of it with the big kings. I did hook a toad on the Kenai this last summer, with the Compre, while flipp'n for reds. Wasn't a whole lot I could do but put the tip down and thumb the spool till the 40lb test leader snapped, do to it being flossed.

I think a Snoopy rod would do the trick.

I would save your money, and just use an old christmas tree and some duck tape and 5 or 6 fishing rod eyes. The trees will loose their needles, then you can pick which branch of the old tree to use, depending on what type of fishing you will do. The big main beam may be great for the 32 oz. lead, and the little wispy limbs would work for the upper lakes. If your into artificals, you may be able to get one of them cheap as well. Happy fishing, good luck!

You sure want one rod to do a lot...GI Joes does have a rod on sale right not that will handle all of the heavy action you want it to. i have three of them and think they're grat. Its a Berkley IM7 7'9" one piece rod casting rod. rated 15-50. its a little short I think for bobbers. It has a huge amount of back bone. The tip is small so it has good feel for sturgeon. I use it for trolling for Spring&Fall nooks, back bouncing, Sturgeon fishing and this hear caught a couple halibut with them. Check them out. I think they are on sale till 11-15-03

Riverkeeper,
I have a spare graphite rod that might do the trick. It is stiff in the butt, with a springy tip, light weight, heavy duty with super fast action. Line weights of 6-50lb. Great for pulling plugs and tidewater bobber fishing, but also good to fish bobber and jig for summer steelhead, downrigger in the ocean, and plunking. It is a three piece rod that will fir on your pack. It's yours for $42.95. Just sendc me tha cash and I will ship you the rod. Trust me, send the money and just go stand ny your mail box.

Awesome fishbait, then I'd have enough money left over to buy a corkie! Can anyone vouch for the trustworthness of this individual? I don't want to write him a check only to have him send me a LEFT HANDED ROD.

I didn't know they made left handed rods. That explains why all my left handed reels don't work very well on my rods, I must have all right handed rods. Anyone want to swap some righties for lefties? How do I tell the difference?
