Occording to the site below, the sandy hatchery only raises coho salmon. So all steelhead and chinook are therefore natives? or do other hatcheries release hatchery smolts into the river?

I'm not sure but I thought they used to get steelies from big cr. I don't know for sure where they got their springers from.

I could not find the word "only" in the website that you made reference to. If you want to find the who and the where on hatchery releases, try this link:

DART Hatchery Releases (http://www.cqs.washington.edu/dart/hatch.html)

Or you can contact the hatchery in question. Just a thought.

Sandy river hatchery fish come from a variety of hatcheries. However, the basin has switched over to broodstock only so they are Sandy stock genetically speaking. Spring chinook are no longer planted as they were not in the basin historically prior to hatchery plantings.

Actually, the Sandy is one of only a very few basins to have historically had a run of spring chinook. They have switched to a broodstock of springers so all returning fish are of Sandy River origin.

sounds like broodstock springers i hope, that would explain my springer earlier this year with a missing fin.
