I grew up in the far northeast of Oregon, and so my experience is primarily with trout and steelhead. I am now living in the lower Willamette Valley where I have not really had much opportunity to do much fishing in the past few years due to starting a family and a business.
Now though I have the time and the kids are old enough to be safe in a boat I am looking forward to getting back to it. I hope some of you folks will help me with some of your knowledge on salmon because I have very limited experience fishing for them. Anyway that later.. here is my latest fishing story.
I took my kids(5 and 8 years old) up to the Clearwater River in August to fish the catch and release steelhead season. My father is a guide up there and he has a friend who also is guide who he had take us all fishing so that he could relax and spend time with the grand kids. The kids and I have fished with my dad before and never had a great day.
Well, to make a long story short the kids each landed 5 fish that morning and we hooked another 12 or so that didn't make it to the boat. Needless to say the kids were stoked and now are completely converted to steelhead fishing (we'll see this winter when it is not 90 degrees). The punch-line is my dad told the kids that we would go again the next morning to which my 5 year old responded,"Why? We never catch fish when we go with you." My dad's friend is still laughing about that.
We did go fishing the next day and landed another 8 fish so grampa was vindicated.
Regards to all
