Release Those Drags!

For years I fished all day, came home and hung the rods on the rack. Never touched the drags. I fish a lot, and even catch a few, and found that I was going through drag washers all the time.

Then I started religiously going through my reels and releasing the drags after use. Now every reel that isn't fishing has a fully-released drag.

No more worn out drags, except for those the sons use to winch in their few hundred Alaska fish each fall. Hmmmm.

between the drag adjuster and the drag stack are two bent washers. they're put in so that the two washers provide a spring effect. releasing the drag allows these washers to relax. it was a few years ago that i read on ifish about loosening your drag at the end of the day and i kick myself each time i grab a rod and find that i've left the drag tightened.

ah man!! what a drag :smile: ... thanks i wouldnt have even thought to do this and now have loosened the 8 reels hanging on my wall.. jocose
