images/icons/grin.gif Whaoooo! Fish on! The ocean opener was fantastic! 3:30 a.m. the fishermen were linning up for their Fresh Herring and racing for the launch.

The Lady Dee, had fourteen passengers on board the boat and left the dock
at 6 a.m. The bar crossing and the ocean was flat calm. They ran out to buoy
two and set the gear in and trolled south west. After the first day jitters with
many fish caught and many fish lost, everybody settled in and started catching
fish. Fish on! Grab your pole. Get your thumb off the reel. Keep the pole tip
up.......Whew..........fish in the box!

By 1:30 p.m. they had their limit of twenty eight fish. They stayed out a little
longer and caught some fish for the boat and crew. Quality of the fish was
good for the first of July. A few small ones, but the rest of them very nice.
The average for Chinook was probably one to five fish.

By mid day, fishermen were in the shop buying ice for their fish. Reports from
them varied. Most of the fish were caught using e-z divers and the Delta divers.
Few were using flashers. Seemed like everything worked well that day. Reports
on fish size ranged from seven to nine pound silvers. With the Chinook ranging
ten to thirty some pounds. Of course there were a few of those small feeders.
But over all the fish were very nice, especially for this early in the year.

The bait of choice is FRESH HERRING. You can order fresh bait the day
before by giving us a call at (503) 861-3693 or by email at tackletime@seasurf.net
Fresh herring come by the dozen and the fresh Anchovie is sold by the pound.

We still have a few dates open for charters...So come on.....Let's go fishing!!!

Ocean Salmon Fishing Report...........Sunday.........July 8th 2001

We're off to the ocean!! After our morning rush on fresh bait orders, we could hear people talking on the VFH radio about fish being caught everywhere.

The bar crossing early this morning was pretty sloppy. But after the tide let up conditions were good.

One of our bait customers who had run out to the ocean this morning, said they started fishing and noticed that some water was coming in around their feet. images/icons/shocked.gif When they had crossed the bar they had taken a few bumps. He said it wasn't too bad just a little lump. Nothing serious to get anyone concerned. They started fishing and more water came into the boat. He said they decided to put a pump on it, and it almost could keep up. But they decided to call the coast guard. They put on their life jackets while they were waiting for the coast guard to come. He said people all around him were catching fish. Nets flying everywhere. The coast guard, got everybody safely on board and towed them to about buoy 12 when the cleat off the boat gave way! They tried to get to the boat, but sank right before their eyes. images/icons/frown.gif

At 10:00 am our charter boat was back with their limits. Before all the poles were out, they had
all their fish. Whew! What a rush. Look for pictures on our web site at http://www.tackletime.net
