Anyone see the idiot above 205 yesterday, that was anchored in the middle of the channel?? A barge came down, and started blowing his horn, quite a distance away. Sounded like he was doing everything right, 5 blasts, get closer 5 blasts. We were watching through the binos...the ding-dongs out in the channel never even got out of their seats!! The barge manuevered AROUND them, and kept on going. The people in the boat finally got up to look when the barge was going by, I'm sure they were thinking "Gee, I wonder why that darn thing is going on that side of us, and so close, too!!!"

Thank goodness there was no wind, and the barge could manuever. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to get around the idiot boat. Hate to see loss of property, and especially loss of life, but sometimes a little part of you would like to see one of these morons get the side of their boat scraped up as a barge scrapes down alongside!!!

The next time you see that you may want to gently point out to them that they are in the channel. It is possible they are new to the fishery, or to the Columbia. You may save a life down the road (er, river). Regards.

Ummmmm, not going to pull anchor and run 1/2 mile upstream to tell someone to get out of the way, when they should learn all that "stupid" stuff about channels, barges, and horn blasts from the boater's license exam (of course, maybe they hadn't taken it yet).

There was another one accross from Sundial yesterday too - same barge - we hear the 5 blasts after it passed us (near the Sandy). I'm sure they'll be getting thank you cards in the mail.

Hey Rogue-We did see the Barge have to go around that boat (I think we were right next to you). He gave them plenty of warning blasts and then maneuvered around them. Would have been fun to see him lay on the horn  just as he past along side of them to drive the point home.
It would really suprise me if that guy doesnt get a ticket.

I'm sure the barges hate this time of year, but I'll bet they hate the 100 degree days worse with all those personal watercraft and those ski boats that don't know bow from stern. But seeing fisherman not move out of the channel when a barge comes that is just stupid. Rish there lives and risk damage to the river for a damn salmon..... not worth it.

NoLimit, Come on.... It is a matter of physics and commone sense. A large barge and a small pleasure craft. I wonder which one will win. graemlins/stupid.gif If they are that dumb when a barge is honking at them not to move, than TR is right that then need to be rubbed as the barge goes by. Hopefull the barge crew got the number of the boat and turned it in so they can recieve a ticket. It is against the law to block commercial traffic on the river. :hoboy: :hoboy: :hoboy:

Yep-yep I'll bet the boat owner either gets a call or a fine in the mail, if in fact the barge had to really move out of his way.
