View Full Version : How do you fish spinners from bank?

Do you just plunk them? Or do you use a retrieve? If you are not plunking them how do you rig them? Or, do you think it would be better to cast eggs out there for them?

I'm going fishing for the buttonlipped coho variety on the clackamas tomorrow. So, wish me luck. I've heard that the clackamas can be a pretty finicky fishery but can't resist a 5 minute trip to the bank to try and nail them. The limit if three could fill a freezer fast if your lucky  .

Cast and Retrieve them. You can cover a lot of water that way and it can be productive (at times).

Good Luck!!!!

The technique is very similar to drift fishing. Cast upstream, and let it float/flutter down river. Let it bounce on the bottom occassionally, reeling only to keep line tension, don't pull on the lure. Once the lure starts making the turn, being down river at about 45 degrees, slowly start reeling. Once it hits 180 degrees(fully down river from you) continue to slowly reel. Alot of times steelhead will follow the lure the whole way, once the lure starts heading upstream, they hit it. Once it gets half way back to you, go ahead and reel the rest in.

Fish will hit at any phase of this technique. And this also works really well with spoons. Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys!

Prospect, It depends on the kids. My three year old is battling the stomach flu and that means that my six year old will probably have it tonight. I am not exactly sure what time I can show if I do. It will probably be around 8:00 because I work swing. Earlier if I'm feeling spunky. I went fishing with ANDYCOHO at 4:30 last wednesday and it wiped me out for a day or two. I'll post back after I check sunrise and make a run to sportsman's to pick up some treble hooks. It seems that if they are going to bite it is at the first sign of light on the water.

Oh and what if any weight do you use? There is a lot of current around high rocks and the riffle just below the railroad bridge.
