I am looking for a boat launch on the CR on Sauvies Island or Washington side to launch my "dingy" Any suggestions? graemlins/1zhelp.gif
There's a launch off lower river road, it is in the slough for Caterpillar island. I think there is one at Richland, that would out you across from the other end of the island.

Welcome aboard Crabby. How about a story!!!!!!!
Hello BRAD! Hopefully your moniker has something to do with what you DO, and not a trip to Mexico! graemlins/berry.gif
That was a joke for you way-to-serious-people that read this board.
Welcome to IFISH.

One other question, would I then need a Washington Liscense since I am launching in Washington?

You don't need a Washington liscense to fish the Columbia river.

Nope. Either state license is good as long as you are fishing in the mainstem Columbia, regardless of where you launch. Welcome aboard!

Crabby,
Well......two strikes against you.......you are Chris's neighbor, and HE is teaching you to fish. I notice you didn't say he is teaching you to catch! Welcome to the neighborhood.

I'm sure I would learn something......I just caught my first of the year! Shoot, I'm still trying to figure out this sturgeon thing???? Seriously though, anytime you want, the fishing is getting good now, the next month or so should be outstanding on our side of the woods.

If you launch in "Richland", you will have a long ride in your "dingy" to get to Sauvies.

Crabby, there is no Columbia River Launch from Sauvies Is., Caterpillar Is. is an option, the others are either Freds or Cathedral park on the Willamette or a St. Helens/Scapoose bay location.
The caterpillar ramp is harder to find, narrow and scary in the dark.

Cat. Is. ramp is also pretty hard on the cross-members on trailers too, at low tide. You pretty much fall off the end of it.
Crabby,
Ditto what Tilla said. To expound.... the Gilbert River Ramp on Sauvies puts you on the Multnomah Channel, about a mile down stream of Coon Island. Note; the Gilbert River Ramp is nearly a 35 minute drive from the Sauvie Island bridge,( it's a big island and you must criss cross to get there) and the last 1 mile or so is gravel. Good luck.
Yeah, but if your going to fish CR than the Gilbert ramp would be BS. I don't know what kind of a boat your refer to as a dingy, but it doesn't sound like a boat you want to launch from Gilbert with than go all the way to the CR. Do Scappoose for the lower end, and Fred's for the upper end.

I am thinking the Catapilalr Island will work for me since it is such a small boat. I saw one about the same 3 miles out of newport one time. I don't think that I would try that. This little boat has a 1964 evinrude that purrs like a kitten, further more it was customized into an electric start by my father.

Welcome aboard Crabby, My Budddy and I use caterpillar island launch all the time. You need to have a special tag, I believe it is called a Stewardship tag. We get ours when we buy a Washinton Non-resident license. If you dont have this tag displayed on your tow vehicle, the fine is 66.00. Believe me, the police do patroll that area. We have had 1 incident of vandalism at that ramp, Some Dough head stole the patch harness from the truck to the trailer wiring.
The ramp is concrete, but 1 lane. No docks. Parking is limited, but there is an over flow area down the road. The big advantage is that you are 5 min from Frenchman's Bar. Hope this info helps. email me if you have any questions.
