My winning streak came to an end today.

Up until this point, since I landed with Team Carrot about a month ago, every trip has netted at least one fish.

Today, all I caught was a bunch of wind waves, monster wakes from the 14 million cabin cruisers going home and a bunch of laughs watching people overload their ski boats after a weekend of camping. Some people have no nuerons firing during Labor Day! graemlins/stupid.gif

Anyway, it was a bumpy ride, and after a few hours here at home, my room is still kind of swaying back and forth. It was almost as rough as the jaws near Wheeler!

We had two hits, no fish, but saw a guy next to us, with a boatload of people, grab three of the URBS. He had five poles in the water to our two.

One of the things we noticed is he was in closer and kind of out of the chop. We were right in line for the wind waves and think that maybe that had something to do with it.

The fish finder had fish running through all day at about 8 to 15 feet depth. I would like to say it was a good day on the river, but it wasn't. Too rough.

Oh, and today was originally reported to be in the 90s, but because I decided to sun my incredibly white legs, I must have sucked some power out of the sun and reduced the tempurature.

You're welcome.

Although now my legs are red...sucks being fair-skinned. Thanks dad.

Will be out again tomorrow and then it is back to work. graemlins/program.gif

Wish me luck.

I live in the area and the way the wind blew at home, I can imagine without reseravtion what it must of been like. The cruisers, yea, they tend to mix it up some. A few are careful with the wake, but most aren't. Have seen some boats on the edge of capizing more than once out there due to cruiser wakes. I imagine if they knew how close they come at times to endangering lives, they would be more considerate. Sorry about no fish. I will be out today and expect 5 to 10 winds instead of the 10 to 15 like yesterday. Next week when the tide series gets better again the weather is supposed to change some and that may help keep the wind down. Better luck next trip out.

I hooked up to the boat about 9:00am and headed for St. Helens. Got down to the launch and looked out on the river and said to my Dad and son, NO WAY!!!!!!

One of my buddies went out and braved the surf and caught a couple of nice fish. But there was now way I was going to take an 8 year old out on the river that day.

It was also choppy at frenchman's. I took a friends high school age son with me, and he was looking a little green.

I don't have a lot of experience at this, but it seems like the fish do not bite as much when the chop picks up. I wonder if the boat motion makes the alvin move too much. (If so, then maybe increasing the leader length would help? I think I'll try that next.)
