The catch and release fishing can be very good. The only problem is the water conditions. Providing you get a good water report and do your homework, the fishing part can be on fire.

Doesn't it re-open the first of october, or is the sign at the John day boat ramp, outdated?

According to the ODFW website, it is closed to retention until September 30. So I'm thinking it opens again on October 1st. I know I've seen signs to this effect too.

BONNEVILLE DAM UPSTREAM TO THE DALLES DAM INCLUDING TRIBUTARIES (BONNEVILLE POOL): The Bonneville Pool is closed to the retention of sturgeon because the catch guideline of 1,700 legal white sturgeon has been met. Catch-and-release fishing will be allowed through the remainder of the year. This is from the update section of the ODFW.......I bought a wash.lic.thinking I could fish up there this fall for sturgeon and to fish out of wind River this spring.I wasn't shur if I could use the inland ramp at the wind so bought the lic.to stay out of trouble with the law, only to find out the season is closed the rest of the year.I don't know much about fishing at Drano or I would be up their trying my luck, any info would be great.I also heard there is an area just a couple miles east of Cascade Locks that is pretty hot now for steelhead, but can't seem to get much info on it...Zipperlipped!!!!I guess.............
