the Nephew and I were at the Kilchis river road bridge the other night and as we entered the beach, here were 2 adults and 3 KIDS poaching trout! I know the ADULTS knew the score because when one of the little girls said: "Dad, what are we going to do with the fish?" the dad said: "SHHHHHH.....!" My nephew later told me he saw 5-6 nice searuns being removed. I was basically trying not to interfere with this family setting, but the blatant gaul of some folks just got me going. If Id have had their licsence #, I sure would have turned them in! People like this just are bewildering! If Id have done that, Id have had at least ATF, FBI and all the state coppers on mY you knowwhat! :hoboy:

we can only hope they was only doing it to feed the kids (lack of money to buy food) any other reason would be totally unacceptable and they should be fined and their fishing rights taken away!!!! that's my opinion anyhow

I guess I am missing what your "gaul" is, Is this it? Why didn't you get their license plate and turn them in? I guess I am missing something. Are you saying you didn't put 2 and 2 together and get 4 until after you left?

Please, when you see that happening, report it to the police. Keep the hotline in your car at all times. Use your cell phone, or drive to the nearest pay phone and report what you saw.

There is no excuse, not even hunger for breaking the laws.

There are places to get free food. Fishing illegally is not the way to do it.

Is it just me but if they have the money for gear then they should have the money for food.

I don't know the reason, but if you called Bill to go down and check it out, I'm sure he'd find out for us!

Ya know, I saw the same thing last night leaving Ifishstock 2003. I was pretty sure that steelheading was closed, but I wasn't sure about the trout rules, I assumed they were C&R for Sea run cutties. So I kept on driving towards home.

Only to be stopped down the road by something us flatlanders aren't really used to stopping in the middle of the road for. A herd of cows crossing the road. Yup, I got stuck in a cow jam. No warning lights, no cow-walk, just the farmer lady waving the cows to cross the road.Ahhhh....life in the Kilchis Canyon. I'm jealous

Anyway, the situation was similar.Maybe two families with kids and dogs fishing just upriver from the bridge, about 8 last night.

Isn't there a trooper down the road, surprised none of the neighbors gave him a buzz if fish were being retained.

Chris

Yup, Chromer, thats the ones! And the reason I didnt get their liscence is because they left right after we came down, and I didnt want to look too obvious trying to get their liscence. I just couldnt beleive they were so blatant about it! BTW, we hooked and released a nice one about 12" right after they left, which we released right away. bright fish.

"Family setting?" Hardly. If these kids see their dad get pinched, then maybe it will make an impression and they won't develop into blatant outlaws. :depressed:

several years ago, I walked out on a fishing pier at the coast. While standing there, I observed a family crabbing and fishing. The father pulled up a net and it was filled with crabs but too small and both sexes. Dad just yanked them out and into a hugh cooler, all of them. The cooler was filled almost to the top and I noticed about 20 smolts in among the crab.

My partner and I looked at each other and headed back to the end of the pier. A call was made to OSP but no officers available. But in a couple of minutes, two county police cars arrived. We indicated the family and the Deputies went out. Next thing, the ticket book was out, the crabs confiscated, net, fishing poles and some other things were carried back to the patrol car. The man was still asking why and the family was all upset. The Deputies told him to read the regulations next time.

Sad that it happened but as we were leaving, I overheard one son tell his dad that he was ashamed that they were criminals. Maybe that son will at least grow up to be a sportsman.

One note of Discouragement is that there aren't a lot of OSP fish and game guys around these days due to budget cuts. This year there are no Cadets on the coast. Dudley talked to the folks over at Jetty fisheries and they told him that not one Tropper had been in there this year.
So I don't know how much good it does to call anyhow.

Just call the local non emergency # for the police (if you can find it) County Deputies can and will enforce all hunting / fishing violations

They weren't catching trout....they were catching smolts! There really isn't a large trout population in the lower kilchis! Call the police and report these violations!
