I just talked with 93 Striper. He is crabbing out of Hammond. He said lots of boats out there. He saw a few fish come in when he was launching.

93Striper, He is using crab rings and is trying out 2 pots/traps. All for personal use. He was just checking it out at Hammond since some of the reports down south have sounded good. And the weather is nice so why not go out on the water instead of working. I wish I could've gone.

Spent most of the afternoon out by the CR buoy, saw a few caught, not many. Had many hits but could not get a hookup. On the way back in stopped aroud buoy 2 for a bit. Got one nice silver with too many fins  . But it was fun. Stopped at 10 on the way back in and trolled till i hit 20. Saw one caught right next to me. The weather was great, except the wind. Tomorrow is another day!

12:55 P.M. Just got off the phone with a couple of buddies who are fishing 10 and they said it was dead. They don't have or have seen a fish caught.
Hopefully someone has a better report.
I'm going to hit the ocean Sunday and give the river a couple more weeks to fill up.

Friday 8/01/03 hit the water at about 10:00 fished until 3:00 for three rods we managed two silvers, though one was never removed from the water due to having too many fins. Saturday 8/02/03 decided to go over the bar and get our limits on silvers. We hit the water at about 6:00 am crossed a pretty rough bar, and limited out the boat in about an hour. When coming back the bar wasn't to bad, but between bouy 12 and Baker Bay that was a rough and wet ride.

Bouy 10 always sucks on the opener, never really gets good till after the tenth, but it usually gets me out there early every year, just because I have to itch the scratch, lol. Well look for it to get really good around the 14th, tides are perfect, but go anyway its always fun. You gotta have bad days to have good ones.

We planned on crossing the bar this morning at low water but it just looked too rough to chance so we stayed in the river. We drowned 3 cut plugs for about 3 hours with only one good strike. Only saw 3 fish cought for over 100 boats between Chinook and B10. I wouldn't go unless you plan on fishing the ocean. My neighbor Nate (ZZZzzzzzz) stayed right at home in St. Helens and put two big bright chinooks in the boat, a 31 and a 27. He even brought them by to show them to me - way to go Nate!

I keep hearing about these summer kings and ST. Helens, but what do they say, believe nothing of what you hear and half of what you see, pics, come on.

Put in at Hammond at 9:30 started to go to buoy 10 and it was just to rough to go out. Went to the bridge on the Wa side. Had 4 people. We had one take down and got one Chinook  . Left about 1:30 just wasn't having fun bobbing around like that and the wind was a bolwing.
At the dock the checker said the people who went outside got fish, we were the first fish of the day inside for her.

Fished today out of Hammond. Trolled herring between Hammond and Warrenton and picked up two Chinook and two Silvers. Fished C&R Sturgeon yesterday. What a blast. Got a little bouncy out there at lowed tide. Especially in front of Hammond.

Can I go to sleep now? How about now? Is the boat still moving? How about now? Man my sea legs are rusty.
Put in at Chinook at 930 saturday morning. Got 1 nate Coho around 8#'s, released. Once small 'nook around 11#'s 28". And one 6# clipped coho. It wasn't red hot, but enough action to keep it interesting. We stayed inside all day.
It will only get better.

8-1:Slept in at a friends in Hammond.2 1/2 blocks from the ramp.Life is rough.Had breakfast, headed out in his 19 ft Arima around 9:30am.Went over the bar about 10:45.A little lumpy but not bad, smoothed out past #4.Started trolling and nothing but jelly fish.Moved over to #2 and had a couple of hook up on nates.Got into colder water(54 deg) way south of the sparkplug and 12lb clipped-bonk!Then a while later and a few more nates 6lb hatchery. We ended up with limits but had to work for them.Lots of big beautiful wild fish  .What a gorgeous day-a glimpse of paradise out on the water. One thing for those(like me) that are follicle deprived-make sure to put your hat on even on cloudy days-ouch graemlins/stupid.gif
ps:we did have pfd's on crossing the bar both ways.

CATCH AND EAT
08-04-2003, 07:56 AM
Saturday we took one look at the bar and then headed toward the bridge. Trolled there until 10:45am. Not a net swinging the whole stinking time.
Hit the bar around 1100 and slid up to the CR bouy. Trolled south between 2 to 5 miles it seems. Started hitting fish like mad. A limit of 8 silvers in very fast and sudden action. OUr bud Tacklebuster left 30 seconds to early :depressed: Game on!!!!
Hit the river again for a troll out around Chinook. "0" nets. Hit the bar around 1130 with Tacklebuster trailing. Worst fishing I have ever seen on the ocean. Move several times. No keeper fish. Hardly even a native or shaker to be had. In total for sunday, 4 fish to the boat. Man, I think I lost my mojo or something. Then again there were lots of boats that were stinking up the water too. Just one of those days.
It appears the fish are down south from the jetties right now. should have done that deal. No biggy, plenty of fish in the freezer. The batch we got saturday is now in the smoker.

Hit the ocean Saturday and Sunday out of Astoria. Ocean was beautiful both days with bumpy bar crossings on the way out but nice crossings on the way back in. We were having a little trouble finding fish on Saturday until Catch and Eat radioed me his position. Within minutes of finding him due south of the Plug we started hooking fish. We cought 13 nate ho's and 1 hatchery ho. I couldn't believe how many fins we went through to get one without. My little girl started getting a little  and finally lost her lunch over the side. I decided to call it and spare her from a bad trip. I wish things would have worked out and I could have stayed cause Catch and Eat found a pod of fish and put on a clinic
Sunday the bar crossing was pretty bumpy for a half mile or so. I was on Catch and Eat's six for a little bit until a couple of boats cut in front of me then decided to turn around and head back to 10. I had to come to a complete stop and then gun it and head north to keep from hitting those graemlins/dork.gif 's. By the time I got turned back around and on course, I lost sight of Bernie's boat and slowed down. I decided to keep going cause I was in the worst part of the bar and made my way out to where we cought fish the day prior. Once past the bar the ocean was great and I stepped her up to about 25 miles an hour to the fishing grounds. We found some fish but the bite was not very good. We cought 2 hatchery ho's and a nook. We then cought six nate ho's and five jacks. I called it a day and headed back across a flat beautiful bar.
We hit the river on Monday and did very well. The chinook are moving through by the church. Kelly Short was fishing the same general area and put 5 nooks on his boat. We didn't do that good but we did hook four and put three on the boat.
Keep those reports coming....
