Buck
I do Alot of fishing in the San Jauns but Im always in a boat. Sept well have fish already in the rivers so in a nut shell Im usually not fishing the Islands in Sept. But silvers should be available on the west side.
Check the tides for the dates you are there and see if there is a good tide (low) in the chuckanut bay area and bounce it against the ferry schedule, if there is a time that you can walk on the ferry I would gladly pick you up in anacorties take you to the samish (its a small muddy crowded river but it gets full of kings)then drop you back off at the dock after you nab your 2 kings. Its not my preference in a way of doing things but I cant see a fellow fishermen come to Gods county and not be able to fish.....DJ

Sorry to hijack this string...

I just spent a week camping on the Olmypic peninsula and we camped on deception pass for a night I noticed a lot of bank anglers and boats in the main channel (west side of the Island).
Do you know what are they fishing for right now & how the success is? (Was thinking of hauling my boat up from Beaverton in the next month)

w-fly what weekend did you camp, the area near the bridge is not open for salmon until the 1st of aug, if it was the 1st 2 weeks of june it was Lingcod, its a great place early in the season. If your talking about west beach ,smith Island side they were fishing for pinks....The pass opens the first of aug but the beach out side the pass is open now, and it can be real good along the navy base.....DJ

buckgtr- dj fish is right about not much bank access on Orcas. Great fishing opportunities if you can get into a boat. Pt Lawrence off the East tip of Orcas is pretty fun - classic rip tide of a point. I would take him up on the offer to fish "the ditch" Samish River. Have had nothing but success there. Don't go there for the isolation and/or beauty -go there to pick up your hatchery kings. September will be a great month to fish there (or any where else for that matter).
Have fun!

I'll be on Orcas the first week in August. I won't have my boat with me but I will have cash.
What would be my best option for that time of the year?
Thanks in advance.

DJFISHS2XS--
It was last week, there was about 8-10 guys on the west beach of the state park, and a dozen or so boats out west of there. Did not see any fish landed except the one the seal was thrashing.
When would you recommend a trip for Coho or Chinook?
Is there a good marina there that can be used for boat camping?
(Will be spending most of August fishing the Oregon Coast for salmon, but this area seems a lot more family friendly, I'm a bit scared to take my young kids out into the Ocean)

My In-Laws live in Victorian Valley on Orcas Island...and they've been trying to get my wife and I up there to hang out. I would love to try and plan a fishing trip up there with someone. My father in law doesn't fish...and my wife doesn't fish...my 4 month old daughter fishes...but I don't think she's ready for a King! We were planning on heading up there the weekend of August 16th. If anyone is interested in having a fella along with his own gear...please let me know. My e-mail is accessable through my profile. I will try to look into the specific beaches that have been talked about here also...and try to bank it if all else fails.

They were fishing for humpys then its a great place once they arrive.
Full,
I see several guide boats out there all the time they might be out of anacorties but Im sure they would do pick ups on any island.
Jeff its just a matter of time, my 7 year old has already caught a 20 pound king this year and a 27 pounder last year, daddy girls rock she has spent many 6 hour days hangin with dad in the boat. I gladly take people fishing all the time, they dont event need there own stuff, the problem is most of my trips (I fish alot) are just grab the boat and go, I dont plan much, Ive fished 56 days this year already.....I have a web pag with results but I have the link on my home computer and cant remember what it is at the moment, and its bad form to mention another web page on these boards....DJ
