If you are a fly fisherman one of the coolest places to fish is Hosmier Lake. It is FF only and requires electric motors only (pontoon boat is the best). The lake is full of very large brook trout and great sized atlantic salmon. The brookies are very difficult to catch and so can the salmon but when the hatch is on those salmon are a blast to catch.

We used to catch them on large caddis imitations when the tent caddis were coming off or a white streamer retrieved very erratically during any other time.

The lake is at most 15’ deep and is crystal clear, gorgeous place.

If you are going to Big Cultus, try little Cultus too. Troll worms behind a set of flashers. Of course there are brown and kokanee in Wickiup and Paulina, and lots of other lakes on Centry drive that I have yet to fish. If you are staying in SunRiver, there are fish to had in the Deschutes up stream from the Trout House restaurant. Blue Fox spiners or Thomas lures work in that area.

The Deschutes between Lava lake and Crane Prairie and be fun to fly fish. Use any thing the will ride high dry like a Royal Wulff or Irresistible.

Hosmer is real nice, but pretty tough place to catch a fish. Last summer it was cloudy green from an algae bloom which didn't help things.

Tom, if you want to try one of those smaller, ff only lakes, you should take my float tube or pontoon with you.

Thaks Bill but I have some one else going and he doesn't have one either so I will just have to fish out of the sled. When I'll have to take you sturgeon fishing.

Greenbuttskunk I do both. I am taking my boat and my waders with my fly gear too.
Would really like to get into some kokanee and macks.
I don't have a flote tube so Hosimer is out.

ST,
I've got extra pontoons and float tubes, so if you both want to use one, drop me an email. I'd be happy to lend you one. Hosmer can be fun. Strip white ghost streamers fast for the landlocks. Adams on the surface at dusk. Cultus and little Cultus should fish well for macks, and the descutes there, as well as parts of the fall river will be good. Check on the poisoned section of the fall, Not sure if it's recovered at all. If you don't mind the drive, crescent was good for me, but it's about an hour from sun river I think.
