Plum Crazy

Doing a little dive/boat time yesterday. We started up river to see the conditions. Around the mouth of the Clack we came upon a Glass cabin boat pulling anchor with his buoy and saw a common mistake that now involved 3 boats. The operator ended up pulling up the (small) glass boat's anchor and it slowly progressed from their.
Which brings me to the point ever so GENTLY or should I say REFRAINED.
Last night I sat up thinking. What could new boaters in that area learn from other's mistakes.
1. Don't pull anchor with the buoy unless your practiced and SURE it will be safe.
2. Pick a spot straight up river and pilot the boat to it. If you look back over your starboard shoulder you will typically turn your bow to that side.
3. Keep a qualified operator at the controls and be prepared to make corrections.
4. Down stream boats Break free of your buoy's and let the stranded boat float by. Two boat's yesterday were involved by one boat's mess up.
5. Where your life jackets!!!!!!
Finally- Bystandards don't be afraid to Dial 911.
The way that the water rescue teams works is by combining several agencies.
These agencies are comprized of Fire and Police- CCFD#1 B-8,LOFD B-212,TVF&R B-59,CCSO,CBFD WR-62,GFD,EFD and others. Some are divers, some boat's but all come from different area's. The CCSO is housed in the lagoon just up from 99 brige or alot of the time are on the river. Once activaded the agencies respond, but the quicker the activation the quicker the responce (that is the key). The system can be recalled easily once the danger is over but the key is call early to get them on the road/river.
Remember they can't help if they aren't activated.
I don't usually mix buisness with pleasure but Off or On duty I see LOT's of mishaps that go on and nobody has been called. Things happen quick out there. So be carefull.
Sorry about the length.
Fire
