The Overfishin Condition

Hey I'm looking at making a downrigger for trolling for trout, but more importantly anchoring up for shad. Are downriggers still possible to use on anchor? I think it'd be great it to be able to pull out of the downrigger and fight shad with a trout pole and no weight. Thanks, TOC.
Perhaps one of the inline weight release Gizmo's would be more appropriate. You know the thing that is spring loaded and when the fish hits it the weight falls off.

yes, downriggers work fine for that application, just be careful lowering, you don't want to get it hung up on the bottom. It is fun though.

Gutz- I saw those in Cabelas, and unless I misunderstood, I believe that you loose the lead completely when you get a fish on? The concept seems nice, but when fishing for shad, it seems as though you would lose lots... and lots of lead. Correct me if I'm wrong there, I thought about those but decided against them. Thanks for the help.
