I remember an old friend talking about great fly fishing trips to the Blitzen. Anyone know anything about this river? Where and when is the best time to fish this river?

Use the 'Cast To' pull-down menu at lowermost right corner to go to the "Flies & Lies" page, there's a Blitzen thread with 9 posts.
From the same menu you can see all the other pages that comprise the Ifish site. Pay special attention to the "Boats & Tackle For Sale" page; you won't want to miss it (especially the boat I'm selling there  ).

McDuck85,
The Blitzen has some real nice Red sides. You should read the regs though I think they haveadopted special catch limits, no barbed hooks etc. on this delicate fishry. I used to live on the refuge down there about 20 years ago . we would fish the evenings at P-Ranch. before you enter Page springs. fish from the bridge down. there are several holes in a 1/2 mile stretch. Also at Page Springs just acroos the gate there is a real nice hole with good casting distance and an undercut bank on the far side. If you keep walking upstream about a mile ,you will come to a small dam. Go over the dam and continue on the trail and you will find many nice holes to fish .Work your flies behind the rocks and you will be suprized on how many nice 14"to 20" fish are there. (At least they used to be). You can hike that trail nearly as far as Blitzen Crossing, but, it isn't really a cake walk. If you go there , be sure to take maximum skeeter repellant and watch out for them rattlers. I sure miss that area . Fish Lake up on Steens Moutains and Wild Horse Lake are also great spots. I don't really know the types of flies to use there .We used spinners and Really small hot shots with the barbs crimped. I sure hope you take some pics to post on your successes. Tight Lines ,Tom
