Hey, I just got back home from delivering 24 jars of Amerman Salmon Eggs to the Delta Park GI Joes. They are asking $24.88 for a quart jar. Have fun and let me know how you do.

Is it ok to freeze the jar(s) after purchase?

When I bought from them direct, they said the eggs would last 2 weeks in the refrigerator or if frozen, the season. I break mine down into baggies the size I need for each outing, then freeze everthing else except for what I am going to immediately use.

24 Jars? Looks like you want to make frequent trips! Those won't last any time at all, I bet they all sell by Wed! Good to see we can get them locally now, thanks Grant!

By Wednesday?.... I think that would be a good thing for us but if you are correct, I will be driving to Portland a lot. Grant

Hi Grant,
How does GI's price compare to buying them direct from Amerman? As I recall I paid like $24 for 2 lbs (in a bag) plus shipping when I bought them. Does a quart equate to 2 lbs?
Thx!

Do you sell the cure there also? And if you do is it for the same price as online? Otherwise, I'll just send for them. Scott gets them out fast so it only takes a day or two and I LOVE that cure!

The stores with the eggs also carry the cure. With shipping the price is about the same as buying it from GI Joes.
West Linn Wader, for this season we will probably only be carried by the Delta Park store. Fishermans Marine Supply told us that nobody would ever spend that kind of money on salmon eggs. Go figure....

Pay that much for bait?....This is the part that always makes me laugh......10 to 50k and up for a boat plus all of the other things we throw our dollars at...Then people buy 2 cent hooks and 5 cent line and the cheapest bait and whine about no fish....
The only part of all the $$$$ the fish will see is the business end of the whole thing.
"The chain is only as strong as the weakest link"
Ever heard that one? The only part the fish cares about is what you put in his face!
The 90% that catch the 10% should be taking notes here!
If you don't have eggs that catch fish....You should give these a try.
I'm hooked on them!

Cool Grant,
Are these like those Patskey's salmon eggs? Those things are great for like blue gill, carp, and those planter trout. I'd really like to get some of those. Can't wait to try them at Uncle Wally's Trout Farm.
Do you really think they'll out produce those little marshmallows?
i got my quart this afternoon. it looks like some others had the same idea. there were a few jars left...

Thx Grant,
Do you have the email info for someone at Fisherman's? Perhaps if they got enough emails from people who want them they would change their tune.

Here's the "Find a Store" link for Joe's (http://www.gijoes.com/corp/index.jsp?page=storeLocator). As far as I know Fisherman's doesn't have a website, let alone an email address. Them new-fangled computators are just a fad, anyhow.

You know, you could use that other new fangled contraption called the telephone graemlins/idea.gif . Just call Fisherman's and ask for the fishing counter and when they answer ask if they carry Amerman eggs. When they tell you they don't just tell them you'll have to go to GIJoes to get them then. Or better yet ask to talk to the store manager and request that they carry them. If enough people request them I'll bet the change there tune. They may be a little slow around there but I bet there not dumb about making some profit.

Any good advice on freezing your eggs in jars I have three quarts of Amermans at home and am not gonna get a whole lot of opportunities to use them for a while

Tanner, as eggs are an organic material, they tend to soften every time you freeze them. Having said that, if you are not going to use them in the next week or two, you have no choice but to stick them in the freezer. Sorry, no special techniques here.
Just so you know, sometimes salmon prefer extremely soft Amerman Salmon Eggs. I have had some om my super soft mushy Amerman eggs outfish my perfect looking Amerman eggs. Go figure....

Hey Grant...one more question-
As I recall Amerman eggs come in 2 "flavors" Steelhead and Salmon. Which flavor are you guys currently delivering to GI's?
Thx!

Red Salmon in quarts.

Has anyone had any success fishing for Steelhead with the eggs that are meant for salmon, and vice versa?

From what I'm gathering, the closest place to Eugene to buy Amerman eggs is the GI Joes in Salem. I too am from Eugene and would really like it if the GI Joes here in town would drop "Guides Choice" for the superior Amerman eggs. For now I guess I'll just have to buy them through the mail which is fine with me. I guess a positive way of looking at it is that less people in my area will be using those great eggs, which will leave more fish for me!

To the Eugene guys: I delivered a case of eggs last night to the Albany store that were destined for the Eugene store. If they don't make it there, the closest store for you guys would be the ALBANY GI Joes. Grant

Grant, I met your dad at joes last friday. First off (before I met him) I was in the gear section looking for some help with dropper weights. He gives me some info. then comes back to where i was fuddiling around and helps me again. Then at the check stand I ran into him again. He was checking out before me. I had a qt. of Amermans and he mentioned the eggs. Thats when I descoverd he was your dad. Figures. Every question i asked you in the last year I've been given a helpful honest answer, I can see where that traight was born. Tell your dad if he wants or needs a drift down the river ( he probably gets plenty on his own or with you but maybe not) that i would be happy to row. He may need to point me in the right direction though cause my drifts have been limited to greens to jefferson, Hayden to Armitage, around the town. But as of friday, I know where one nice steelhead lives. Bugger got away with my Amermans but not before he had to work for them.

Cully, you could ask him yourself and I think that he will probably go(retired, trying to kill himself by fishing every waking moment)with you but not until they quit biting below Lebanon dam. He is averaging a fish or two a morning right now. Also, he is Fishn'Fool on this website.

Grant,
Are the Amerman's eggs at Joe's in Albany the only ones in quart jars? I bought a jar that did not have the Amerman sticker on it. I did notice a bunch of loose stickers in the fridge.
Congrats.
Grant, hows Scotts new baby?

Milwaukee GI Joes laughed at me. Said they wouldn't dare carry anyone elses eggs than Guides choice or guides choice would cut them off.
Hummmmmmmm now theres a novel idea!!! graemlins/applause.gif

Grant - when are we going to get Amermans eggs in Eugene? If its going to be a while where is the closest place to Eugene?

Salmon King, you talked to the wrong person. Sorry. That's kinda funny.
COTR, ugly as Scott. Just joking. Actually, he is doing great. He hasn't caught his first salmon or steelhead but I am sure it will happen soon.
Ex-Tex, you bought the right stuff. We can't put the stickers on until they are completely thawed out and they are selling so fast that the stickers aren't making it on the jars every time. Thanks for the business. Grant
