Some friends of mine and I are taking a trip around the end of July, 1st of August timeframe and heading down to Medford at the Valley of the Rogue State Park to camp for a few days. I was wondering what kind of fishing the Rogue offers? Does anyone have any information on places to go, tackle to use, etc. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think July is typically one of the slowest months in the Grants Pass area, BUT there will still be fish to catch. Email me if you want more specific info.

I've had some pretty hot springer fishing up near Shady Cove into late July, generally backbouncing eggs or using K15 kwikfish. The flossers seem to do well up near the hatchery that time of year as well.

What about bank fishing? Is there any easy access for bankees to fish?

If you head upriver toward Lost Creek there is a ton of bank access, the only downside is there is a ton of fishermen. A common tactic is a 4 foot leader and a green bead. I prefer to catch biters which is why I'm generally in a boat. Sometimes you can get them to grab a slow moving spinner.

Roguefishr has called it correctly. July and August are the two deadest months on the Rogue. In July, as has been said, the remnants of the springer run will be in the upper river. If you fly fish there will also be a run of true summer steelhead in the upper river. Unless you get an overcast day, it will be be an early morning and evening show. If this interests you e-mail me and I can tell you which flies to use and suggest some areas to try from the bank.
