A website opposing Senate bill 293 has been created:

http://home.earthlink.net/~defeat-sb293

This legislation not only effects all waterway recreational users but all Oregonians!

293 could eventually make it so landowners will have the legal right to prevent anyone from anchoring or wading on the river adjacent to their property.

It also will make it possible for private fishing clubs to close of huge sections of our rivers and operate the as "Operational Camps" which will most likely be very expensive private pay to fish clubs.

Think about it. Do you want someone to tell you you can't fish the Sandy, The Roque, The Chetco and others. That is what can happen if this bill passes.

The following quote from Committee Member Sen. Charlie Ringo should chill anyone who fishes or otherwise uses Oregon's rivers, or hopes to have their children use them:

"Comment from Senator Ringo
Email dated 4/28/2003

. . ."SB 293 has received 3 or 4 hearings in my committee on Water and Land Use. I generally agree with your assessment that the bill is designed to exclude the public from our waterways."

OK, if enough of us make these calls we can kill the monster now!

Pick up the phone, the staffers are there and are pleasant to talk to. At Atkinson's office 'Sherrie' is happy to talk about the Rogue - sounds like she fishes from the bank too.

Both Atkinson and Metsger fish, so appeal to that aspect - fisherman to fisherman - and the potential impact on future fishing in ORegon.

Now quit typing and pick up the phone.
