Cure the night before, take them fishing, what you dont use throw into the water and start anew next time. Fresh bait catches fish. Try adding powdered milk to the mix, it really shines them up big time!

I agree fresh is best. I have used the powder milk and some bluing. Most of all you want to toughen the baits up and get the scales to stay on. Just my .02.

If you fish the ocean in the summer, save them for then. We limited the boat out there a couple times with old springer and even older fall fish bait. Feeding cohos don't seem to care.

Good point Flatfish, with the cost of bait it is nice to be able to use in a productive manner.

I have been curing mine in a quart jar with Blue food coloring. I just through it in the freezer and they seem to be Ok for a while. I am using a couple of Hand Fulls of Rock Salt in a Quart of Water. When I take 'em out of the Jar I give 'em a shot of Smelly Jelly Special mix and Slamola powder.
