Hello,

I've been watching this site now for a few weeks.
Now I,m the newest newbie. I don't have much of a
fishing history, so I cant come up with a great fish story as of yet. I just bought a boat less than a year ago and I fish mainly in the Columbia. I can tell you a quick story about me and my dog while out on the boat.

Last year shortly after getting my boat I brought the wife, kids & of course the dog out for boat ride. We took the boat to beach area on the columbia and someone had thrown a stick in the water.
My dog jumps in the fetch the stick and guess what....
HE CANT SWIM. He is a yellow lab that cant swim.
I thought all dogs swim. He tries to reach for the bottom with his back feet, and splashes water with his front feet. Needless to say it is not fun rescuing a dog from the river.

Well the next trip in the boat was my daughter, my dog and myself. We were at the tail end of fall salmon season last year. So we were going fishing and the plan was to keep the dog in the boat the whole time. I launched the boat and started driving to where the hog lines were.
Going about 40 miles per hour, I look back to see my dog standing on the back swim platform.

Now my dog has Bright Orange "Fido Vest". I get lots of laughs from other boaters & fisherman.
But at least now my dog can swim (with the vest on) and I dont have jump in the water if he falls in or jumps in.

Well this seems to a great website, with great group of members.
I'm out.

Welcome to the crew, my lab liked to jump out of the boat during her first year fishing. She'd jump out of the front of the boat and I'd reach down and pick her up when she came by the back end, all 15 lbs. of her. I'll be on the lookout for any orange vested dogs floating by.

Don't feel bad about the dog. I looked out the window a couple weeks ago, and my lab was sound asleep on the lawn and there was 13 wild turkeys surrounding him and eating all around him. he never woke up.

Welcome aboard.

Glad you care enough to put a PFD on that pup.
I gotta think with some practice that dog would
learn to swim. Glad you take him out with you, it's always fun fishing with a dog.
