I don't know guys. It seems like everyone I see out there is wrapping their kwikfish with herring or sardine. I've just been using a scent pad with Maries Sardine Scent and usaually do fine (6 days out and 3 hatchery 24lb chromers)

What do you think? Am I just getting lucky or do I have something here?

Crazyfish,

I hope you are on to something.

I ordered a bunch of the sponges to use instead of bait and I'm going to drive to Tillamook and get some of Marie's scents to use.

I can't wait to try my totally fake herring. It's two velcro strips with "scales" on the outside. You put juice on the inside and attach the velcro strips so it imitates the herring roll.

What color sponges are you using on what color Kwikfish.

I'm sure it would work but I'll stick with the real deal thankyou very much. I have some velcro that I keep in my box just in case I run low on Sardines. You can fish all day by rubbing some meat into the velcro in a pinch. I would think that the sponge would have to be doused with scent quite often to keep it useful.

You have to presoak like a dozen or two the night before. Change them out every 30 minutes and your good to go. Presoak in carrot milk and almond extract for a effective bite stimulant.

BrionLutz, you don't have to drive to Tillamook to get Mary's products. They have a website and will ship whatever you want right to you.

scent pads?? bah, i say. mike's gel scents go on easy and they LAST! i had a plunking rig out in the current for an hour and when i brought it in to check it, it was still putting off a slick of scent. and it won't affect the lure's action like pads or wraps.

You may want to wrap with a fuzzy pipe cleaner and wet with Marie's shrimp oil. Should administer scent while not interfering with the plugs action. I don't know, just a thought.

Good luck

Earlier this week I had a k-14 that ran awesome naked, but would not tune with a wrap on no matter how small the wrap was. Rubbed it down w/ sardine every 20 min or so & that 1 plug was responsible for 1 keeper 2 fish on & 2 other takedowns out of the 8 total takedowns that day. All other plugs out were 15's with wraps. I would still prefer a wrap on on cuase I think they increase hookup ratio, but the frequent rubdown with the real thing worked pretty good

We've done well in the past dipping the butt end in Smelly jelly sardine paste or herring. Stays on forever and gives off a great slick.
