What size sea anchor is needed for a 19' boat? Is there a certain type that is the "go to" or will any brand/type do the job? I tryed the search and came up with nothing.
Thanx

At sportsman warehouse they have two real big ones A 40 incher and a 52 incher. If you were in need of BIG ONES.

It is not a sea anchor. You want a drogue. A sea anchor is literally what it says -anchors the boat to the sea. A normal sea anchor looks like a parachute and can be about 27 feet in diameter. They are normally used by open ocean sailboats.
Regarding your drogue, they are sometimes sold sized for your boat.

I have a 19' NR and I have two of the large size from Fishermans/Joes. One was not enough. They are essentially the same except the ones from Fisherman's have a metal ring inside the mouth to keep them open in slow current.
At last check the ones at Joe's were less expensive. I would say the opening on mine are around 20".

MasterCaster,
I have a 19.5ft North River sled that I fish with 2 med. sea anchor's. They do the job unless I have my top up and the wind is really blowing. If the wind is constant from one direction I will sometimes drop a five gallon bucket on one side to help.
As for the brand I use Fisherman's marine sup. They are reasonable and have lasted over two years of my torcher.
I hope this helps and tight lines.
Rich

Both sizes were on sale (maybe still are?) at FMI. $15 for the small ones and $20 for the big ones. I picked up a small one but I haven't used it yet.
