Fished yesterday over at the coast with Wolfhunter. We had a blast and got our midwinter skunk off. We went 5 for 7, with a mixed bag of natives and hatcheries. Fished plugs and flies and did quite well on a river we had never fished, so we were happy.
First fish came about an hour into the drift. Boom!, and nice native hen around 14# smashed the plug. Was able to lift it up for a quick pic before releasing (unharmed)

After that, Wolfhunter hooked up with a nice 13# hatchery, but this fish was spent so we let it die peacefully and naturally. again on a plug.

Later, within another hour, Wolfhunter hooked up with this nice 13 # hatchery buck on a fly.

Here's a close-up of it before we took the fly out

I finally got into another fish within 20 mins. that just screamed line out. Thought it was a 20 lb'er by the way it took line, but ironically, it was a smaller native that was just scrappy.

One last fish came about a half hour until sundown, just about the same size as the last native. and in the same run.

All in all, we had a great day on the river, even if we hadn't have caught fish. However, those were great bonuses. And I WAS a bit hesitant to post my pics of natives, for all of you that like to harp on folks that take pictures of them, but...yeah, i don't think i need to say anything. I know how to release a fish unharmed, so i'm not worried. I just wanted to share with you all our great experience, and that you all should get out there and take part in the fun!
Good luck to all, and I hope the spring nooks start kickin in soon!

Thanks a bunch for sharing your pictures. Any chance of getting the recipe for the fly in that hog's mouth? I'm always looking for new, effective patterns...thanks again.

Does that fly have a trailer hook or something? It looks like it's stuck right between that fishes eyes

BTW, the first pic looks like the bluff hole halfway down the twin bridges run..

Yes, the fly is an articulated. and no hook up on the front. so it looks a little crazy in the way it's hanging.
