I like the 12 foot ugly stick becuase you can get them for 75 or if lucky 65 on sale. The ugly stick wont cast as far as a the long lamiglas but they still cast well. My dad landed a 10 footer on the bank with one. The lamis at FMS are nice but the guides seem kind of cheap for the price. If I was going to drop the big money I would want to go with the ones with better guides. I know theres a place in Cascade Locks with a lot better guides. I think there around 300 but you get way better guides for your money. My dad asked them about warranty at FMS and they may or may not warranty them if used for sturgeon.

Try to locate Ted Tayler, BA Rods. He is a custom builder that is responsible for many of those incredible bank rods up there. Great guy, reasonably priced for the rod you end up with.
Good Luck.

I would save the money and just get an ugly stick. Am a all for Lamiglas rods, but what are you trying to feel out there when you are plunking 12oz of lead?

Anybody here remember the old "Furuno" rods. If you ever run accross one of those, they were great for fighting big sturgeon. A real beef stick.

i have used the ugly 12 footer and didn't really like the weight. I have also used the 13' 3" and 13' 6" lami for the 199.00 at FM and liked the feel much better. Fifteen just seems to long.

I have a 14' Lami and a 12' Ugly Stick. There is no comparison. They have the same reel and line and the Lami will cast 16oz way further than the Ugly Stick.
I suspect that if I offered the Lami for sale at more than I paid for it 15yrs ago I would have no problem getting takers. I cannot say the same for the Ugly Stick. Don't get me wrong, the Ugly is a lot of rod for the money and if it is what you can afford, go for it. The Lami rules.

I am seriously considering buying a 15' Lamiglas sturgeon rod from FM's.. The are a bit spendy, but they look like a damn good heavy duty rod. The ugly sticks just seem a bit floppy. A friend of mine has one and he swears by it for landing oversized with minimal bank walk. I am moments away from bustin out the debit card.. Feedback please.

I have both the 15' 5f and the 13'6" 5f I first had the 13'6 and then got the 15'. THe 15 is good when there are a lot of other rods nexted to you makes it easiers to work with, but I feel that the 15' is a lot less stiff. I like the 13 6 for hogs and 15 for salmon. I can also cast the 13'6" much farther than the 15 with 8-10oz weights. If you where to get one I would say go with the 13 6, the 15'er is a lot of rod.
