WOWZA~! I'm a believer now!!!
No kidding... When USIA wanted me to have a survival suit, I thought, "What the heck for?" I don't go in the ocean much! It's cute, but...
Well, Kim Johns from USIA (http://www.ifish.net/adventurecharters.html) came over today, and gave me a mini cold water survival course today, along with my new custom dry suit.
It's awesome!!!
Quite frankly, when I heard he was coming, I thought... "OK, I'll play along..."
But this is SO cool! I feel SO much better about going in threatening water conditions that I can't believe it! I'm reborn! In fact, dare me... I'll jump off your boat, just about anywhere and feel confident that I'll be alright!
First, he had me put on what is called Exotherm ll. It's a warm fleece layer, that feels so nice on! (And he made me fashionable, in black and purple, too!)
Then, on with the dry suit.
He gave me one that zips in the back, as I rarely, if ever, fish alone.
There is rubber around your wrists and neck. It's kinda tight, but he adjusted it.
Then, he made me go walk in the water, and sit down! I did! I immediately felt the air collect at my torso, and my feet floated up in a natural survival position. I was totally relaxed, and floating in 47 degree water... and I was warm!
"Hand me a Margarita!" I joked with him.
After a while, my hands did get a little cold, but not bad at all! It was amazing!
I feel like putting it back on now, grabbing my rod, and floating down to the logging bridge!
I could, you know? I really could!
Kim says that often times, while drift fishing, he'd do just that. Hop out of the boat, and float where he wanted to go!
He also said that if he is in a boat that he doesn't trust the driver, he can just walk off the boat, and float to the beach!
I'm likin my dry suit alot, and I doubt I'll fish without it much! So--if you see a bright pink girl with ifish.net on both sleeves, that's me, and if you don't watch out, I'll just float over and watch how you are rigging your herring!
He took pictures, so I'll add those later.
He also made me some awesome waders!
It's Christmas!
