Just thought I'd pass this very sad bit of news on. I'll sure miss Gary and Darlene at the Old Mill. :depressed: Lots of memories...
Hi Jennie. Gary and I just wanted you to know that we will not be back
running the marina and tackle shop at the Old Mill. The dredging didn't
happen and we just couldn't do it under those circumstances. With more silt
and terrible tides this coming season, there won't be much water there and
the stress is too great. We will miss all the wonderful people we met over
the past 3 years and wish we could thank them all for their past support.
Guess Jeff is going to be real busy and hope all goes well for him at
Garibaldi Marina. PS. We are looking for jobs now so if you hear of
anything, give us a call. Take care. Darlene and Gary

That's too bad, it was another launch and bait option for Tillamook Bay. :depressed:
Not to make this political...but the President's budget SPECIFICALLY left out money for dredging on the Pacific Coast, leaving some of these ports in desperate straights.
Take that how you will.

that is really sad. now the other ramp will be even more crowded with not enough parking. is there anything we can do to help get this situation out? who would have paid for this dredging? the town of Garabaldi has to realize that this will hurt the economy there.

Yea Jennie, sad news indeed. I got the same kind of email from them a couple weeks back when they returned from Arizoni. I let Bill Monroe know about them and that they were eligible and perhaps my favorite people all up and down the coast that I have had the pleasure to do business with over the years. I don't know why I didn't think to contact you about this. They will be missed but I can understand his frustration. Hope they find something to do for work. They want to stay in the same area of the coast so that kind of limits things. Maybe something in Nehalem will open up for them. A business owner couldn't ask for a better pair of managers.

Fishing is Life,
Maybe this will answer your question. This is part of two emails I got from gary & Darlene
on March 7th when they returned from Arizoni. I'll email you Gary & Darlene's email in case you want to ask them if there is anything that can be done. I believe the ramp and marina will be open, but that doesn't solve the problems at low tide and many of us will miss Gary & Darlene's smile and wonderful personality's and character.

Hi Dan, we just got back from Arizona today, had a great time. We just wanted to let you know that we will not be running the marina this year, they did not dredge and we won't do it again under those conditions. If we do run it again in the future we will let you know. Hope you had a great winter. Take care.
Gary, Old Mill
Hi, the new owner stopped all our dredging efforts and it was at the end if we didn't get it. At low or minus tide the marina is unusable and too drepressing, having to send people away to use the other facility. We told the owners that if it wasn't dredged we wouldn't run it and that is where it lies. We are sorry about it too, made a lot of friends but there is a lot more involved and the only decision we could make. We will be looking for something else to do, if you hear of anything up our alley, let us know.
Take care. Gary

My first T-Bay fall chinook was caught launching from Old Mill. This bums me out because it is also one indicator of multiple threats to our NW fishing way of life. Good luck to them.
