We need some serious repersentation, is anyone out there a lawyer?
I think thats why the netters are even still able to have a chance because of their repersentation. We need a way to direct money in a NON BIAS program to benifit us.
Just think maybe $20 each into a pool to support a program to give us a better chance to be heard on hot issues. I see a huge opportunity here for us to unite all of the volume and energy in the sport fishing community. Who knows maybe Jennie would be our president. just kiddin
I don't think that there are any of the netters that net the columbia, rely on the revenue from netting for thier sole income, on the otherhand I am sure that there are a few giudes that rely on it for thier sole income.
We could all benifit from it, I think we need to get a little more agressive and this is a way to do it.

I think NW Steelheaders can/does fit this role.

How do they get feedback from the public?

Tipndwater,

Besides NW Steelheaders (http://www.sandysteelheaders.org/) , there are a bunch of salmon restoration lobbying groups out there already.

Best to pick one you like and support it vs. starting another one. Here are a few of them.

America Sportfishing Association (http://www.asafishing.org/content/newsroom/newspr_oropac.cfm)

Coast Range Association (http://www.coastrange.org/)

Pacific Rivers Council (http://www.pacrivers.org/index.cfm)

Save Our Salmon (http://www.wildsalmon.org/)

Oregon Trout (http://www.ortrout.org/)

While those are all great organizations, they still represent 6 voices rather than 1. I know at times some organizations will pair up, but in the end they all have their own agendas. We need something like the Oregon Hunters Association for fishing. They were at least able to muster a legitamate fight in the Bear/Cougar debate. I think even the hunting battle gets a little diluted with the RMEF, Turkry Foundation, Wild Sheep foundation, and Sierra club. If all of those dues went to one organization, and had one staff to pay for, we would have a bigger voice on important issues.

Corlyn,

While those are all great organizations, they still represent 6 voices rather than 1.<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">Hmmm...so we should make it 7 voices?

There's even more pro-salmon organizations than the 6 I listed.

Part of the problem is that the sport fishing voice is so divided (hatchery vs wild etc.) that it lessens its effectiveness.

That's why I recommended joining one of the existing groups vs. starting a new one.
