OK my fellow Springer Chasers I have a greenhorn question for you in regards to this stretch of river. I have 2 maps and 2 different names for this island across from Kalama. Anyway what can you tell me about fishing this stretch. Keep in mind this will be my first venture to the CR.

If this is the one in front of St. Helens, it's Sand Island (has a campground on it). Good trolling on the Washington side, I think they anchor as well on an outgoing tide. Sturgeon fishing is good up above and down below.

People fish the whole lenght of this island with good success. It drops off fast, so fish close to the Island. They tend to hogline just below the island and fish on the pile dikes at the upper end of the island. It is also good fish ing on the upper end of the island on the Oregon side in high water conditions. Hope this helps and good luck.

The map I have shows that island out from Kalama as Sandy Island. Sand Island is out from St. Helens.

Sandy island across from the Kalama launch fishes good at both ends. I hear they are also picking up a few at the mouth of the Kalama river.
