Proper kwik fish tuning?

I have heard of two diferent methods for tuning kwik fish. One methed being to turn the eye, the other being to bend the eye. Does anybody have any input on this?

I had always turned the eye. Jack Glass was the speaker at the Tualatin Valley chapter of NW Steelheaders meeting the other night and he said to bend the eye. His reasoning was that the eye screw on the k14-k16 is just screwed in. The more you turn it, the looser it can get and be prone to going out of tune more frequently. On the k13, the eye is glued in between the two pieces. All you can do is bend the eye.

Another interesting point he made was to tune your kwikfish prior to the bait wrap. This was just the opposite of what I had heard. Again, his reasoning was that the more you mess with that screw, the more likely it is go out of tune more frequently. After you put on your wrap, test the plug. If it is not running properly, just take your fingers and mould the bait wrap until it runs correctly. The wrap is soft and can be adjusted easily with your fingers.

I thought they were some good points and am going to give them a try my next trip out. Thanks to Jack Glass for sharing.

Thanks brshooter, I think I will give bending the eye a try! As I have noticed that the eye does tend to loosen up after awhile when turning it.
