My good fishin buddy started having problems with His SJ. At 3800 rpms it wants to stall. It runs great otherwise, it just will not go past 3800. Any ideas would be appriciated. He took it in to be fixed, spent 350 dollars and still has the same problem. That is another sore subject.

What hp sportjet is this. I have a 175 (wich so far has been reliable) and my friend has a 240 and is having problems with it currently not getting top end and smoking like a "Silly Billy". Though I have heard the high end side of the stator may be cause problems in the top end rpm's

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me. Is the tank vent clogged? Filter clean? Hoses clear? A lot of this could be checked in the driveway by disconnecting and blowing through hoses.

If your friend spent 350$ and did not get a proper diagnosis he should get his money back, of have the boat fixed. Diagnosis fee in a full scale auto dealer is'nt that much, somewhere there is a problem 350$ should find it!!!

dilivery problem sounds right. start at the gas tank. my 175 had the wrong fuel hose going into the tank. it curled back up, so it caused air to enter to fuel line. Then check for vacume leeks. thats my guess.

Mis-aligned jet pump nozzle will also cause the engine not to rev to full RPM....kinda like a banana in the tailpipe. Ensure that the nozzle is moving completely out of the way when forward is selected.
