I know it is tradition so here is my fishing story. I thought I would tell the story of my first steelhead. Me and three of my friends (fellow ifishers) were making a drift on the north santiam. I had been steelhead fishing with no luck for about a month and a half. But, something felt different about this morning. We put the boat in and no sooner than we started fishing I heard FISH ON from the back of the boat. It's gonna be a good day I thought! As the day went on each of my friends had caught one. They all felt bad for me since I still hadn't caught mine yet so out of pitty they would hand me their pole and let me fight the next fish. So boonedoger hooked one and handed me the rod, "It's a big one he said so be careful, don't lose it!" So what happened of course I lost it! He still teases me to this day of losing his 30 lb. steelhead. The next thing I hear is FISH ON again. This time RipALip31 hands me his rod. I was more nervous about losing this one than catching my first steelhead because I had just lost boonedogers big one! I of course lost it! "That's it the boat yelled no more charity fish for you!" As the day continued my head hung lower and lower as the boat teased me and called me names like Willy no fish. For the day the boat was 9 for 11 and of course the 2 that were lost were my fault. The drift was almost over with the boat ramp in sight, I thought to myself if not today then when? Everybody in the boat began folding up their rods and putting their gear away. I pittifully left my line out drifting alongside the boat when WHAM FISH ON! Everyone looked at me in shock, he must be kidding they had to be thinking! After 10 min. of fighting RipALip31 lifted my 15 lb. native steelhead out of the water! In my eyes it was the biggest looking fish of the day!!! After a quick picture we released it. Then celebration and high fives around the boat, I had finally done it, my first steelhead! No more Willy no fish!
There's my story! Glad to be aboard the IFish boat!
