I was fishing a hog line today and saw two other boats fishing one more rod than people in the boat, What do yo all think is the thing to do, gnore it, say somthing and risk a confortation. I usally fish with my son and want to teach him the right thing to do. but in this case I really don't know how to handle it, if I had my son with me today,I may have just left, but shouldn't have to do that.

jetsled1,
Fishing with Captain Confrontation has taught me a few survival techniques before it goes to money, guns and lawyers <grin>.
First one is make sure they were actually fishing the extra rod. I often will have a couple rods in the holders. Also, I've seen kids pop up or folks wake up from naps.
If they are in hailing distance, you can be their "pal".
"Hey guys...saw the sheriff here yesterday checking on extra rods."
That kind of puts them on notice they've been spotted without putting you on the spot as the Enforcer.
If they give a lame-o reply..."He'll never catch us", best you can probably do is take their picture getting the registration numbers and the rods.
If the comment and the picture doesn't do it, you can probably feel you've done your duty. You could call the ODFW or the Sheriff and report it and the registration numbers but it's going to be a he-said, she-said deal unless the Sheriff surprises them.

My suggestion: Take down his boat number and report him to the state police with a cell phone, or call after you get back. Thus, no confrotation. Some people :hoboy:
