All I can say is "un-believable". Robert and I installed the TR-1 Gold today. I could never steer the boat as well as this bot. My wife will be pleased that I'll never have to yell at her again "Where are you going???"

Seriously, I see it as the best toy on the boat. Gladiator is next.

I would never own a boat without one! Wait till you use it on anchor in the reverse mode while sturgeon fishing, its just plain awesome in those conditions!

PP,
Yeah, I too am seriously thinking of getting a TR-1. I'm tired of being stuck in the front of the boat steering, while all the guys in the back are "reelin' 'em in" and having all the fun.
Where is the best place to purchase it, and what was the cost? Also, are they easy to install? Thanks, S

Bought it from the manufacturer direct and they installed it. Didn't look too difficult, but no mistakes were made and they guarantee their work. It was done correctly the first time.

The ability to put your head down for a few minutes and tie hooks, prepare bait or even read a book knowing you are on course is going to make it a relaxing day, or at least less stressful.

Pitch pocket, I hear ya on the yelling at the wife driving thing. They are GREAT! All my friends call it my marriage saver. Not sure how I fished without it before. I troll alot but have used it the last few weks on the CR in reverse mode. Sweet!

Those with a TR 1, how well does the unit work when you are trolling against a heavy wind and the boat wants to sail back with the wind. Looking to purchase the unit but it is alot of money and do not want to be disappointed or would like to know there short comings first.

Thank you in advance for your input.

If the wind is howling and you can't do it manually, the TR-1 isn't going to do it either. If it is possible to navigate those conditions with the tiller or steering wheel, the TR-1 will do it better. It will do anything it can to keep your heading.

It's more a factor of the kickers ability rather than the autopilot. The kicker can be inappropriate for severe conditions. You can't expect 9.9 hp to counteract heavy winds on a 6000 lb boat.

northriver1,

I have a 9.9 Merc Bigfoot on my 23'boat with a perm canvas top and the TR-1 works great under 95% of the conditions. Like PP said if you cant do it manually the TR-1 wont either. Like I said before I would never own another sled without one!

I'll go ahead and chime in too. I also would not be without my TR-1. It ran me about 1800.00 and well worth every penny. Have them install it and calibrate it. Again the reverse feature alone is worth it. I hooked mine up to my gps and it was very cool but if the lake has alot of traffic it's kind of a pain. Don't wait buy it!!

I'm so impressed that I'm really considering the Gladiator too. Anyone here have the autopilot for the main? A buddy just installed one and I'm looking forward to his reports, but anyone who has used it, I'd be interested in your story.
