About eleven yesterday we saw this boat and it's crew hung up in some sweepers.

We asked them if they needed help but they said it was on the way.

The Fire Dep. water rescue was soon on the sceen.

That river is running real high and fast so keep a heads up.

I recovered a life vest down river so if any one knows who's boat this was let me know and I'll get it back to them.

I can tell you how fishing was! It was a beautiful day on the river. Sun was shining and the birds were singing. The fish...we caught a few steelies! graemlins/applause.gif I reeled in a nice native we snapped a picture of and released unharmed. Not bad for my first time steelhead fishing. Hmmm...I may have to bug my brother more often to go fishing.

Hello to all,

Yes David is right we had a little mishap on the Clackamas the other day. Fortunately there were no injuries and both people were picked out of the brush via our boat. Many reasons contributed to the situation at hand and I cannot comment specifically.

The victims were placed in our boat and we went back and got as much equipment we could out of the boat. Both of the guys where shaken and we made a little plan for them to get their boat out the next day. Unfortunately that night or the next day someone laid claim to the boat and when the owners rallied to retrieve it the boat and motor were gone. If anyone has information on the persons or the whereabouts of the boat and motor please contact the Clackamas County Sheriffs Office. This was a homemade tan drift boat with a blue and white Honda kicker. It still had one fish on seat in the boat. Once again there are no salvage rights in Oregon and the boat is considered stolen if not returned the owner. It is terrible that someone would take advantage of someone’s mishap.

I can say that no life jackets where worn and this was a close call for all considering the river level and location of the incident. Low hanging brush and debris are very dangerous since water will pass through and you won’t. Please take extra care when operating above these areas and near obstructions.

David J. I have the name of the owner if you would like to get with him on the life jacket. You are a stand up guy and we love to see you out there catching fish even though it makes us jealous. That was a nice native you had as we went by. I hope our yellow boat didn’t spoil the picture.

Please be safe out there and “Life Jackets don’t Work if you don’t wear them.”

CaptJohn, i saw the boat being "salvaged" on Sun 3/16 at 5pm. there were two jetboats working on getting it out. i wrongly assumed that they were friends of the boat owner. i did not right down the boat numbers. i did see them pulling into the riverside ramp at about 5:30pm. i wish i had written some info down now. if i can help any further let me know via email.

Boy does this make my hart start pumping again. I think this is a lesson. If someone see someone salvaging a boat, take some numbers down just in case. These people need to pay the price for taking this boat.
It's time people stop getting away with this.
I was glad to here there were no injures.
After my mishap and this one in a drift boat maby people will start waring there PFD's on the water. This stuff happens in a hurry.
David, once again you proved your a sportsman and a gentleman.

I also saw the two boats pulling the driftboat, they were going upstream above the coffee hole a 1/2 mile. Looked like an alumaweld forwardhelm sled with blue writing on it, the other was a sled. Both were 18-20 ft boats.I went up to the carver boat ramp and fished for over an hour and no one showed. I would guess they pulled out way after dark or went to one of the homes to pull out. I wish I would have written the boat #'s down. I will in the future.

What part of the river was the sweepers on? Is this a hazard we should all be aware of? Thanks for the info.

going downriver the hazard is from the "carbody" hole to "coffey" hole on the left channel next to the island.

bump....

Captjohn-is there any news on locating the whereabouts of the drift boat? I was with my brother that day when we came upon the boat and its crew. It's a shame people are so greedy and took advantage of these people's situation. By the way...that nice native you saw was mine. I'm not sure if David got ahold of you about the owner of the life jacket. He's in Mexico until the 25th. I will make sure he knows about your message in case he didn't see it before he left.
