Hello all.Lurker for a while but wanted to add to the board.I live in salem, three little boys, wife, small house, yada yada yada.fished most of my life started with grandpa(didnt we all?)well, enough of that.story time!tell you about the first and second steelhead i caught.was mid january,1993 or94 i dont remember for sure.i hadnt had much luck with drift fishing 2 or 3 years so i bought a side planer and a couple of plugs for something different.i had tried it a couple times but no luck.drove up to the upper big nehalem and found a good looking spot.sent a hot tiger wiggle wart out.was moving it around out there for a while.all the sudden,my planer is under the surface!what the #%*? i set the hook and lo and behold,i soon landed my first winter!wow these things work.i was stoked.i had a pole holder with me so i stuck that in the ground and set the planer again.i grab my fish and start to clean it and i look at my pole and it is going off again!easy limit!wow i am shaking.it is too bad they stopped the hatchery program in the big nehalem.well this is getting long winded so,to all the people who were wondering about those things, they do work! N S out

Side planers work! If you find a good slot to fish, go for it. I've landed three chrome winters steelheads in several hours using side planers. My best day ever.

Good story! Been using them on the Deschutes behind a plug and they are deadly once the sun is on the water. You can walk them around the rocks real easy. Thumbs up for the side planing!!!

Awh yeah, we'd call it kite fishin' The best way to go pluggin' from shore. We'd line em up close to the bank after the river blows out just up from Griffin Park, Rogue River.
But it's your wiggle wart
