I have 175$ in gift certs to burn at bass pro shops and have decided it's going towards a GPS unit. I have looked them over and Magellan seems to be a good bet. My question is they have 2 units that are the same price - Sport trak map, and Meridian green map. The only difference I can see is the Meridian has unlimited upgradeable memory via a SD slot VS. the Spot traks 6mb fixed memory. Am I missing something here? I almost just bought the Meridian but I thought I'd throw it out here for comments first. Why would they be the same price? I went to their web site to see if I could find any other differences and couldn't see any. The Meridian seems to have more overall features too. Anyone have any input on these 2 units or other units I should consider? Thanks a bunch.

Can't tell you much about the sport track however the green meridian I believe is the same units that frye's are selling for $99.99 which is an excellent price. These units have 2MB of hard memory which you can upgrade with the topo or streets software and an 8, 16, 32, or 64 MB digital card. This is alot cheaper than bass pro is selling them for so maybe buy sometnig else at BPS and run over to frye's for the GPS unit. I own the meridian marine (Blue) it has 16MB of hard memory which includes bouys and that sort of thing for on the water. My dad and alot of his snowmobiling pals all have bought the cheaper meridians from frye's and down loaded Oregon and Washington, and they love thier units.

I have the Meridian, basic unit. I have also upgraded the memory and have a CD of Streets and roads of the whole USA. I think it's a great unit, and would highly recommend it!!

I have had the Meridian Platinum for about 6 months & have had no problems with it. I used it up elk hunting & out on the Columbia this year. I got the Platinum just for the electronic compass. You don't have to be moving for the compass to work. Have up-dated it on the website 3 times since I have ownd it. Have down loaded topo maps into it. If you buy the topo maps it already has the streets & destinations on the cd. So you don't have to by both softwares. All of the Meridians can store maps ect on the replacable memory cards. When you buy the $99.00 Meridian & down load all the maps ect. you end up with the a very good GPS. Just waiting for the Big Blue software to come out. If any one would like any other info just email me Bob
