Im looking to get a new fish finder. Can you let me know what I should look at. I like the lowrance X91. Let me know what you all think. Thanks
I have used the X91 and it was awesome. Wont go wrong with that one. I have the x85 on my boat, and it works great, but the x91 would be better. 3 thumbs up for the x91.

I use an X-91 and it works great. You can even pick up gators on the bottom if you are running nice and slow. I have had very good success this year cruising my spots nice and slow, marking big gators, then anchoring above using the X-91. graemlins/idea.gif
I have said too much now

How does the Lowrance X97 compare to the X91. I just purchased the X97. It was very confused, I hope I made the right choice.

I have the X91  and it is great , with the power it has I have to turn the senitivity way down or all I get is #$@^&%* , I have picked up what I would say were gators, I just wish that the sound on it was a little lounder for my deaf ears, They do cost some bucks but well worth it.

Ive got an eagle which is made by lowrance only cheaper in price. Take a look at the new eagle 320 w/ speed and temp 239.00 at cabelas.

I am also looking @ getting a new fish finder. I think I have it narrowed down to the following:
Eagle 320 w/ speed & temp
Lowrance X-87 or X-91
Humminbird Legend 2000
I'm sort of leaning towards the Humminbird, it has knobs on the unit to go from one function to another. Instead of the other brands going to a main menu, and finding what you want. The Humminbird looks real user friendly.

I bought a legend 3000 D last year, and I really like it. Very user friendly, and you can actually see crab pots on the bottom in 24' of water. Of course it shows fish too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I have the RayMarine (Raytheon) L470 and have not had any problems with it. I got the side looking transducer (which I rarely use) and like the simple menu driven features and the different info you can obtain. I paid $355 for the unit a couple of years ago.
Any idea how this unit stacks up against the Lowrance units of comparable price and features?

I have the LCI-16 it's the color display with the gps with mapping built in. It's awesome. It will tell you how many rocks are on the bottom. It reallly shine's when I want to fish a new area and I down load the map onto the finder. I could go on but if you want to know more just call or email. SPACE FISH

Crabbait,
I have the X-15mt w/ GPS and dual freq. trnasducer, great unit. Color would be nice, but I got a good deal on this one. Definition is awesome, shallow or deep. Haven't had the shallow read problems like discussed last year.
Hope this helps.

I have the X-15mt. Right now the X-16CI is almost half off in Cabelas. This a big-screen, color dual frequency unit with the mapcreate software.

I've had Lowrance products with mixed results. I had the LMS 350A which was pretty good but with too many buttons. I had to send it back 3 years in a row due to water getting in the unit. I now have the 15mt only because they would not replace the 350 on the third return but gave me the 15 for $200. Color is better then grayscale depending on what you want to spend. I would look at the Furuno's if I was buying from scratch. Lowrance has great customer service and unfortunately you may need it.

I run the Lowrance 350A. It has 3000W continuous and 5000W peak sonar power with dual frequencies, 50Khz and 192Khz. You can see the bottom in 1200+ feet of water offshore. Try that with your Humminbird. This Lowrance unit has given me reliable service for many years. I returned a Humminbird ID-1 uhhh, probably 5 or 6 times and never got the problems resolved.
About the buttons. The number pad is the most important, many new units lack this feature. When the radio fish are running offshore and the GPS coordinates are flying back and forth on the VHF radio, I can type as fast as you can talk.
All of your fish are soon to become mine!!!!
Try that with the new units that do not have a numeric pad.
Who do I call to upgrade the 350A to an x15? I have a spare 350A and the download/upload features and maps would be a huge improvement. It's all hand keyed in now.

Another vote for Lowrance. I've got the X-85 and LMS160 GPS Mapping unit. I've always been told that you need a color unit to actually spot sturgeon, but I don't know. I've cought lots of fish when the finder showed none and got skunked when the finder was full of fish. I rely on it mainly for depth and for spotting schools of baitfish and silvers in the ocean.

I just purchased a Garmin 240 blue from sportsmans warehouse (special order, took 1 week) for $330. There's a 25 buck rebate from garmin until the 15th of April. Really like the simple menu and adjustments, resolution is great. I have been extremely satisfied with other Garmin products and am basically a die-hard supporter of companies whose stuff works for me or that provide superior service, (i.e. sportsmans.)

I saw an earlier post where someone said they mainly use the fish finder for depth readings. I t got me to thinking that very few of the salmon we have caught were seen on the depth finder which made me wonder how much of the bottom I can actually "see". After doing the math I came up with the following - 20 degree transducer (X85 wide angle): In 10 ft of water the finder covers a circle 3.5 ft across, 15ft of water the circle is 5.3 ft across, 20 ft of water the circle is 7 ft across, 30 ft of water the circle is 10.5 ft across. At normal springer depths (15-20 ft) the fish must swim within 3.5 ft on either side of the transducer to be seen on the screen. Now I know why we hook fish not seen on the screen. Hope this info is at least interesting to everyone. BTW - my math teacher years ago was RIGHT, I did finally have a real life use for geometry and tangent calculations
I have a X-85. It works Great. Go with Lowrance, they are great for gators.

Maybe you are using your 'Po as a fishfinder.
You slam the fish before he can swim under your transom (where the transducer lives).
In the Ocean, we seldom see Salmon before we get bit. I think they are chasing the boat and come up from behind.
At least that's what you see on the downrigger cams.
